莫桑比克当局说登革热“回滚”

 　　MAPUTO, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Health authorities in northern Mozambique said on Tuesday that dengue fever "is being rolled back", although the total number of infection has climbed to 32.

　　The disease was first detected in late February in Pemba, capital city of the northern Cabo Delgado Province. The Mozambican Health Ministry¹ confirmed the breakout last weekend, with no death reported.

　　The provincial² Health Director in Cabo Delgado, Saozinha Agostinho told the state television TVM that the disease "is being rolled back," as local hospitals received only two people in the past two days, compared with three patients each day a few days ago.

　　Pemba had witnessed similar breakout around 1984. "This means that the mosquito that causes the disease already existed but it did not spread, now the falling rains create conditions for its rebirth," said Agostinho.

　　The authorities had ruled out the chance of the disease being transmitted through human contact, though Cabo Delgado province registers regular entrance of illegal immigrants into Mozambique.

　　"Every patient detected with the disease are residents of Pemba city and they said they had no contact with people from other parts of the world, except those they normally deal with in their daily life," said Agostinho.

　　The province, near the Ruvuma Basin rich in natural gas, has issued an alert as a mean of controlling infection and finding out other infected regions.

　　Dengue fever, also known as breakbone fever, caused fever and joint³ pains.
