(单词翻译:双击或拖选)
Hewlett-Packard announced that private investigators1 that they hired to find the source of leaks to the press broke the law as part of their research. The investigators pretended to be Hewlett-Packard board members in order to convince phone companies to turn over private phone records of journalists from the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and other publications covering the hi-tech world. According to an HP spokesman, "We are absolutely horrified2 that the records of journalists were accessed without their authorization3." Chairwoman of the HP board Patricia Dunn, who ordered the investigation4 into the leaks, said that she was "appalled5" by the news, and resisted calls for her resignation. The California Attorney General's office is investigating the incident.
