 Two subway trains rear-end in Shanghai, casualties unknown

A subway train rear-ended another this afternoon in Shanghai, leaving some passengers injured.
The city's subway operator says equipment failures were believed to have caused the crash on the Line 10 subway.
Photos posted on the Internet showed several passengers were bleeding, with firefighters entering the train to rescue the injured.
Local authorities are investigating the exact cause of the crash.
 
 
Death toll1 in minibus-truck collision in north China rises to 7
The death toll in a minibus-truck collision in north China's Shanxi Province has risen to seven after another teenager died in the hospital.
All of the victims are junior high students. The minibus was taking them to school when it was rear-ended by a truck in Jiexiu City. 
Police say the minivan with seven passenger seats had 12 people on board. 
The truck driver fled the scene.
 
 
6 killed in suicide car blast in S Afghanistan
A powerful blast has rocked Lashkar Gah city in southern Afghanistan, killing2 at least 16 people and injuring 20 others. 
An official in Helmand Province says it's a suicide car bomb that struck next to a police department in the morning rush hour.
Lashkar Gah is the capital city of Helmand Province.
 
 
China opposes US arms sales to Taiwan
Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi has reaffirmed China's position on the United States' arms sales to Taiwan, urging the US to immediately revoke3 its arms sales decision.
Yang made the remarks when meeting with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on the sidelines of the UN sessions in New York.
Clinton said the US adheres to the One China policy and is willing to properly handle the differences between the two countries and avoid disrupting cooperation between the two sides.
 
 
Powerful typhoon hits Philippines, killing at least 2
A powerful typhoon has struck the Philippines, killing at least two people and leaving another four missing.
Typhoon Nesat has triggered floods and cut power. In Manila, government offices, schools and universities are closed.
As the storm approached, the authorities ordered the evacuation of more than 100,000 people in the central Albay province.
The typhoon is expected to continue across the country, before blowing across the South China Sea towards southern China on Thursday.
 
 
New blast hits Egyptian gas pipeline4 supplying Jordan, Israel
A section of pipeline supplying gas from Egypt to Israel and Jordan has been blown up in northern Egypt, the latest in a series of attacks this year.
A security source says a group of masked gunmen stormed a pumping station and bombed the pipeline in a village near Arish, North Sinai.
The pipeline has so far suffered six explosions since February. No one has claimed responsibility, but it's apparently5 aimed at halting gas exports to Israel.
 
 
Japan may consider being part of Greece bailout plan
Japanese Finance Minister Jun Azumi says Japan would consider being part of a global plan to help bailout Greece.
He was quoted by the Reuters news agency.
Eurozone governments are in talks to discuss how best to stop the crisis spreading from Greece to the rest of the continent.
 
 
China issues forest fire alert in five regions
Chinese authorities have issued its second highest alert for forest fire outbreaks in five regions in the country's south and southwest.
The State Forestry6 Administration says there will be high risks for forest fires in the provinces of Hunan, Guangdong and Guizhou, Chongqing Municipality and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous7 Region in the next three days, due to the risks caused by high temperatures and scarce rains. 
The agency says drought has lingered in most of those areas, with precipitation levels at about half the historic averages.
 
 
World media leaders meet in Beijing to discuss IPR, new media, cooperation
Leaders from the world's most renowned8 media organizations have gathered in Beijing for a presidium meeting of the World Media Summit.
They are here to discuss the protection of intellectual property rights, the rise of "new media" and cooperation between international media groups.
The first World Media Summit was co-launched in 2009 by China's Xinhua News Agency and eight other media organizations including News Corporation, AP, Thomson Reuters and BBC.
 
 
Chinese Forbidden City exhibits open at Louvre
About 130 artifacts from the Forbidden City, China's ancient imperial palace museum, are greeting the French public in the Louvre Museum in an exhibition that will run until early next year. 
The exhibits including arms, clothing, bronzes, pieces of jade9, lacquerware, enamels10, seals, ceramics11 and personal effects of the Ming and Qing emperors, some of which were on their first overseas visit. 
 
Beijing aims to relocate tens of thousands of residents to suburbs by 2015
Beijing plans to move tens of thousands of downtown residents to the city's suburban12 districts over the next five years to ease the overcrowded situation.
A local official says 50,000 to 100,000 people in Xicheng District are expected to be moved, out of the 1.3 million people in the district.
The government will conduct a survey to get the residents' opinions on the relocation efforts.
