 Xi vows1 punishment on terrorists, careful rescue for victims

Chinese president Xi Jinping has urged the law enforcement to investigate and solve the case of Kunming terrorist attack with all-out efforts and punish the terrorists in accordance with the law. 
More than 10 terrorist suspects attacked people at the square and ticket hall of Kunming Railway Station at 9:20 p.m. on Saturday, killing2 at least 28 civilians3 and injuring 113 others. 
Police shot dead five attackers and are hunting for the rest. 
Xi Jinping stressed the careful rescue and treatment of injured civilians and proper handling of the dead. 
He called for full awareness4 of the grave and complicated situation of anti-terrorism and effective measures to crack down violent terrorist activities in all forms. 
Xi Jinping has assigned officials to go to Yunnan to guide work and visit injured civilians and relatives of the victims.
Ukraine puts military on alert: acting5 president
Ukraine's acting President Alexandr Turchynov says he has placed the country's armed forces on full combat alert, warning that any military intervention6 in the country would lead to war.
Speaking alive on Ukrainian TV on Saturday night, he said he had also ordered intensified7 security at nuclear power plants, airports and other strategic infrastructure8
Turchynov said Russia has no justification9 for any "act of aggression," 
He made the announcement hours after Russia's parliament gave President Vladimir Putin a green light to use military force to protect Russian interests in Ukraine. 
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Arseny Yatsenyuk said he had urged Russia to return its troops to base in the southern Crimea region during a phone call with Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and called for talks. 
Yatsenyuk said military intervention would be the beginning of war and the end of any relations between Ukraine and Russia.
S. Korea urges Japan to face history with courage
South Korea commemorated10 the 95th anniversary of the Independence Movement Day on Saturday, remembering the sacrifices made by those who fought against Japanese colonial rule.
South Korean President Park Geun-hye attended the ceremony and insisted that the Japanese government look back on its past wrongdoings.
She also proposed to North Korea that family reunions be held regularly, as time is running out for elderly Koreans wishing to see family members from whom they had been separated during the Korean War.
Pakistan welcomes Taliban's ceasefire
Pakistan has welcomed ceasefire by the Taliban as a positive step that could revive the stalled dialogue process. 
The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan's spokesman Shahidullah Shahid says the group has declared a ceasefire for a month and the leadership has asked all the Taliban groups to respect the ceasefire and stop attacks. 
He also urges the government to "give a positive response" to the Taliban decision to make progress in the fragile peace process.
China naval11 expert defends military budget
A Chinese military expert says Double-digit growth in China's defense12 budget in recent years is moderate and in line with the country's economic conditions.
Yin Zhuo, director of the Expert Consultation13 Committee of the PLA Navy, has told Xinhua that China's military spending is still far from the level it needs to be as the country faces increasingly severe security challenges. 
The Chinese government is to unveil its defense budget for 2014 during the annual session of the National People's Congress, set to begin on March 5.
Preparation for Chang'e-5 launch on schedule
China says preparation for the 2017 launch of its lunar probe Chang'e-5 is going as planned.
The country's leading space scientist Ye Peijian says Chang'e-5, as part of China's third-phase lunar program, is expected to bring back moon rock samples to Earth, a move hailed by him as "a historic moment" for the country.
China becomes world's largest goods trader: WTO
China was the largest goods trading nation in 2013 according to data from the World Trade Organization.

China's manufacturing PMI drops to 50.2 pct in February

China accelerates improvement of car charging services
China's local authorities will speed up the construction of charging stations for electric cars in urban regions, helping18 eliminate a major hurdle19 for the country's new energy vehicle sector.
The Chinese capital announced this week it will add 1,000 electric chargers by the end of this year. Beijing has 65 stations equipped with 1,200 chargers, with the largest station able to charge 210 vehicles at same time. 
Chargers will cover the city's central district, with each serving a five-km-radius.
