After Tuesday’s terrible earthquake, 200 people are still missing, almost certainly dead. Just over 100 bodies have already been recovered from collapsed2 buildings. Thousands of people still have no power, water or sewerage system. Thousands of homes are so badly damaged that nobody can live in them.
This 6.3 earthquake was an after shock from the 7.1 earthquake September 4th but this time it was much worse. This is because it was closer to the centre of the city, it was only 5km deep and it happened in the middle of the day when people were at work. Also many buildings which did not collapse1 on September 4th, were weakened by that quake.
How will Christchurch ever recover from this terrible disaster?
