And Julia Gillard will hold her first Cabinet meeting later this morning as Prime Minister. She's promised to get straight back to work in her new role. One of her first jobs will be to choose her front bench, and she isn't ruling out her ministerial position for Kevin Rudd.

Rescue workers in Brazil are searching for more than 600 people still missing in severe flooding. Heavy rain swept away entire villages in the country's northeast. At least 44 people are confirmed dead. Rain has eased, but the floods have left about 120,000 people homeless.

Belgian authorities have raided the headquarters of the country's Catholic Church over allegations of child sex abuse. Investigators¹ sealed off the home of the Archbishop of Brussels to search for material relating to an abuse investigation².

And immigration officials say a group of Burmese men has ended its hunger strike at the Darwin Detention³ Centre. Thirty-one men staged an 11-day protest because their visa applications hadn't been processed. The men from west Burma are now under medical supervision⁴.
