 Secret US documents published by WikiLeaks reveal just what China thinks of its North Korean ally and they show a South Korean official telling Washington that China would be comfortable with a reunited Korea under Seoul's control. And the documents also show Chinese officials regard North Korea as "something of a spoiled child".

 

A long-awaited Pentagon report into gays in the military shows that repealing¹ the "Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell" law would have little effect on the army's ability to carry out missions. It found 70 per cent of soldiers believed it would have little or no effect on their units. The US Senate had been waiting for the study’s release before deciding whether to dump the policy.

A man arrested last week in Victoria’s biggest drug bust⁴ has died in custody⁵. The 48-year-old Vietnamese man was found unconscious in a prison toilet and died later in hospital. He suffered from asthma⁶.
