Floodwaters in Brisbane have fallen rapidly overnight, revealing the extent of the clean-up that lies ahead. The Brisbane River is at about 2.8 metres and is dropping quickly. The city's Lord Mayor Campbell Newman says the clean-up begins this morning and the top priority is to get the roads open.
It’s been a sleepless3 night in Goondiwindi with locals bracing4 for the Macintyre River to peak. It's expected to reach a record 10.85 metres this morning or higher. The mayor, Graeme Scheu, says the Macintyre River has been at 10.6 metres for several hours.
The clean-up is underway at Ipswich as water levels drop. Three thousand homes and a large number of businesses were flooded by the Bremer River. Mayor Paul Pisasale says there is a lot of work ahead and a stack of volunteers from all over Queensland are arriving to pitch in.
