The Wikileaks founder1 Julian Assange is preparing to spend a second night in the Ecuadorian embassy in London.The 40-year-old walked into the embassy yesterday seeking political asylum2. World leaders have kicked off a three-day Earth Summit in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. The Rio-Plus-20 conference brings together almost 200 U.N. members. U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon has opened the summit warning the world is running out of time to fix various environmental problems.
And first time novelist Anna Funder has taken out Australia's most prestigious12 literary prize, the Miles Franklin Award. Her book All That I Am tells the story of an elderly Sydney woman and her role in the anti-Hitler resistance movement before World War II. Anna Funder has also attacked the Queensland premier13 for scrapping14 that state's literary awards.
