The prime minister's asylum¹ seeker reference group is preparing to meet, the Opposition² is refusing to take part and is defending a key plank³ of its own policy. Opposition leader Tony Abbott is under attack after admitting turning back asylum seeker boats could be dangerous.

 

Victoria police say there is little chance of finding a missing diver alive, the 42-year-old woman went missing off Bellarine peninsula on Saturday while exploring a wreck⁴, the search was scaled back yesterday, but police diver are expected to return to the water today.

 

The names of two of the three men on board a helicopter missing in Papua New Guinea have been released, the 42-year-old Australian Russell Aitken and 49-year-old New Zealand man Antony Annan, the chopper disappeared in the country's rugged⁵ highlands on Friday.
