 Syria has agreed to allow UN Weapons Inspectors¹ into the site of a suspected chemical attack. Syria's Opposition² says hundreds of people were killed in the attack in Damascus last week. But the White House says it's too late to find any incredible evidence that chemical weapons were used.

 

Melbourne police have shot a man dead after pulling over his care. A highway patrol officer stopped the car in Winza in the city's inner east because he believed that the car had false number plates. Police say that he was trying to arrest the driver when the man pulled out a knife. 

 

Support for Labor³ has risen to its highest level since the beginning of the election campaign according to the latest News Poll. The Coalition⁴ still leads Labor 53% to 47% after preferences. The result is within the margin⁵ of error.

 

And Tony Abbott is campaigning in Brisbane after launching the Coalition's campaign yesterday. The Opposition leader pledged new money for dementia research and interest rate loans for apprentices⁶. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd begins his day in Sydney where he'll focus on job creation.

 

And a search resumes this morning for the body of a 24-year-old man killed by a crocodile in the northern territory on Saturday. Police and rangers⁷ used spotlights⁸ to research the Marry River overnight. A crocodile attacked the man as he was swimming across the river about 100 kilometers east of Darwin.
