 Malcolm Turnbull has again insisted that he's not after Tony Abbott's job. The Communications Minister has hit out at conservative commentators¹ Andrew Bolt and Alan Jones who are accusing him of harboring leadership ambitions but the Prime Minister says there's nothing wrong with ambition. 

 

I expect my senior front benches to be ambitious. There's nothing wrong with being ambitious. 

 

But I don't have any plans, any desires, any expectations to be the leader. 

 

Egyptian prosecutors² are demanding Australian journalist Peter Greste be jailed for at least 15 years. They have wrapped up a case against Mr. Greste and his colleagues claiming their reports for Al Jazeera were intended to cast Egypt in a bad light. 

 

The Prime Minister has arrived in France where he'll attend D-Day commemorations later today. Tony Abbott will join other world leaders in Normandy for a ceremony to mark the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings. 

 

The Canadian city of Mountain remains³ locked down this morning as authorities hunt for a gunman accused of shooting five police officers, killing⁴ three of them. The shootings began when police responded to reports an armed man wearing camouflage⁵ gear was prowling a neighborhood. 

 

And the defense⁶ has wrapped up its case in the sexual abuse trial against Ralf Harris in London. Both sides will sign off their cases next week before the jury retires to consider a verdict.
