 A New South Wales man who sent out a fake press released. The cross-coal company shares to fall as walked free from court. Mr. Moylan pleaded guilty to disseminating¹ information to the market in January, 2013. He distributed a fake statement from ANZ which said it was withdrawing funds from Maules Creek² Mine Project. There’s a temporary 314-million-dollar drop in the value of the White Haven³ Coal Company. In the New South Wales Supreme⁴ Court, Justice David sentenced Moylan to one year and eight months in prison, but released him immediately on the good behavior bond. 

 

The local share market ended slightly down, just missing out on setting a new record for longest stretch of the gains this year. The ASX 200 ended down just four points. Across the region, markets have been mixed. And overnight, Wall Street hovered⁵ near record levels, but ended flat as mixed economic numbers kept a lead on gains. And the Australian dollar has been setting just above 94 US cents. 

 

International Monetary⁶ Fund has cut its global growth forecast for 2014 back to 3.4% due to weakness in the first quarter. But the witness says it’s not expected to last. 

 

“To a large extent, it will reflect something which has already happened, which is the negative growth rate in the first quarter in the US. But that’s the path to a large extent. Looking forward from here, things look better…”
