Another government minister says he believes that same-sex marriage will be legal by the end of this year. The Assistant Treasurer1 Josh Frydenberg says he thinks there is enough support in the partyroom now for a free vote on the issue. And Victoria Liberal MP Sarah Henderson is the latest Federal politician to back a change. ‘I mean it is inevitable2 in Australia. And the fact that twenty other countries in the world have on the statute3 books gay marriage and thirty-seven American states means Australia has taken longer.’ And Sarah Henderson will be joining us on the program very shortly.
Indonesian police say a boat carrying sixty-five
asylum4 seekers has crashed onto a reef after being turned back by Australian authorities. Those on board are from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Myanmar. They are now being held off on
Rote5 Island off West Timor. Authorities say they were on their way to New Zealand when they were
intercepted6.

And in South Africa an American tourist has been mauled to death by a lion at a game park on the
outskirts9 of Johannesburg. The lion jumped through the open window of a car carrying two people. A woman died from her injuries. A man is seriously injured in hospital.
