There was a serious traffic jam on the super highway¹ during the Chinese New Year.

农历年时，高速公路大塞车。

Many people, instead of driving, took trains home for family reunions.

很多人改搭火车回家团圆。

At night, people set off fire crackers², so that we could hear popping all around.

在晚上，很多人放鞭炮，因此鞭炮声处处可闻。

While having the family reunion dinner on Lunar New Year’s Eve, I got lots of red envelops³ from my elders.

除夕夜，吃年夜饭时，我的长辈给我许多红包。

1 highway
