Good morning, I’m Melissa Long here at the CNN center in Atlanta, it’s a Wednesday, October 21st, and here’s a look at some of the stories happening NOW IN THE NEWS.

Afghan president Hamid Karzai’s chief rival Abdullah Abdullah has agreed to a runoff election. Karzai was close to rejecting a second round vote, changed his mind though after marathon talks with Democratic Senator John Kerry, and fresh from his mission in Afghanistan, Kerry is gonna be talking with President Obama a little later today.

Lowering the nuclear risk from Iran, a draft deal has been hammered out in Vienna, Austria. It caused Iran to send most of its low enriched uranium out of the country. That’s the material that can be used for nuclear weapons. Other countries, such as Russia, would further enrich it then return it for use in medical research. Delegates from Iran, the US, France, Russia and the UN have until Friday to sign this agreement.

This hour, Secretary of State Hilary Clinton will be delivering what the administration calls a major address on the steps being taken to reduce nuclear weapons in the United States and abroad. Officials say Clinton will also insist the world end its “ cold war thinking”.

In upstate New York, police may have stopped another Columbine-style attack. A 15-year-old boy is at a psychiatric hospital for allegedly plotting to attack his former high school in Monroe. Investigators1 say they found gasoline, fuses, a black trench2 coat and machete in his home. They say it appeared that he had been trying to buy an assault rifle . Police say the boy planned the attempt for April 20th, that’s the 11 year anniversary of the Columbine killings3.

Police say a robbery suspect prayed with a clerk before robbing her. They say the armed man went to a check cashing company,(... into that check cashing company) Indianapolis Monday. Eventually, the clerk started crying, and talked about God, the suspect said he had a 2-year-old to support, so he and the woman prayed about overcoming his troubles. Police say he took her cell phone, 20 bucks4 and surrendered the next day.

Those’re the headlines for you this hour, do stay with CNN and CNN.com for more on these stories or other news that develops today.
