As the Sri Lankan government said it has made even more headway in its fight with the Tamil Tigers, a known terrorist organization. International aid agencies are saying there's a deepening humanitarian1 crisis in the north of the country. They say about 200,000 civilians2 are caught in the crossfire3 and they need immediate4 assistance.
On Sunday, the Red Cross says a worst-case scenario5 happened when a hospital was shelled, a hospital that was already overflowing6 with patients. That shelling created two deaths and injured five people. The UN then said that that hospital was shelled again. There is an untold7 number of casualties at this time there. That of course has created a call for the protection of civilians in Sri Lanka. Now we wanna show you some video. This video is from the Tamil Rehabilitation8 Organization, which is known to be closely linked to the Tamil Tigers. The government is angered over this video, saying it is purely9 (a) propaganda video aimed at discrediting10 the government and helping11 the Tamil Tigers, a known terrorist organization. But, international aid organizations are very clear and saying that the medical facilities that they're seeing are inadequate12 and that there's definitely (a) humanitarian crisis. Certainly, humanitarian aid is scarce in the north and there's more help that is needed there.
The international organizations though say that both sides need to make absolutely sure that they're following international law. At this point, those organizations say international law has been violated and civilians are paying the price.
