Horse-powered garbage hauler runs on city road
A video out of Yunnan showing what appears to be a horse-driven garbage carriage has gone viral in China.
The local sanitation1 department is denying the antiquated2 garbage hauling method.
A local claiming to have seen the man on numerous occasions has provided an alternate suggestion. "I had chat with him before, he is a farmer living in the countryside and feeds quite a bit of livestock3, so he often goes to vegetable markets to collect leftovers4 and leaves as forage5 in the evening," said the witness. "He thinks using garbage truck can help him avoid checks by the police," he added.
While almost non-existent in today's major cities in China, carts pulled by draught6 animals, including horses and mules7, can still sometimes be found in smaller cities, particularly in the rural areas of the country.
