 　　Toast with jam is one of the things that Lucy settles¹ for for breakfast when she doesn't have time to make a hot breakfast. 没时间做顿热乎乎的早餐的时候，露西可能会拿果酱夹吐司凑合一下。

　　Toast, we already know, is bread that is cooked - that is brown. 我们已经说过，吐司是烤过的面包，已经烤成棕色的。

　　Jam, "jam," is a liquid² made from fruit, such as strawberries or cherries. 果酱（jam）是草莓和樱桃之类的水果做的一种液体。

　　Cereal³, "cereal," is a dry food that you usually eat with milk. 麦片（cereal）通常掺了牛奶吃，是一种干燥食物。

　　I have cereal almost every day for breakfast because I am not a good cook like Lucy, 我每天早上都吃麦片作早餐，因为我不像露西那样会做饭。

　　so if I did not eat cereal, I would not eat anything. 所以不吃麦片，我就没饭吃了。

　　Lucy says "it’s nice to start the day with a sit-down meal when I get the chance." 露西说“有机会的时候还是坐下来认真吃顿早饭比较好。”

　　A sit-down, "sit-down," meal is a meal where you take your time, you relax, you sit down and you have something like a formal⁴ meal. 坐下来（sit-down）认真吃顿早饭是指你不慌不忙地吃饭，很放松，坐在那里像正式宴会一样吃饭。

　　It's a - it's a more relaxed way of eating. 这是一种比较放松的吃饭方式。
