The CDC says a Colombian man who they were helping1 to diagnose the cause of lung and lymph node tumors back in 2013 may have been made sick originally by the world's most common species of tapeworm.
The researchers were able to test samples of these tumors only to find they contained DNA2 that was other than human and eventually matched it to the dwarf3 tapeworm.
They believe this is a rare occurrence, and would only happen to someone who is already immuno-compromised, but that more undocumented cases could be out there.
