There was near unanimous Republican support for Speaker Ryan, just one fellow Republican voted for someone other than the Wisconsin Congressman¹. Ryan was elected on the House floor with 239 votes.

Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi won most of her party’s support.

Ryan will now lead a Republican majority that after the Inauguration², will also have a Republican in the White House, promising³ swift action on a health care law repeal⁴ and tax reform.
