In addition to that, 20 percent of those surveyed said that they want the police to spend more time in their communities. So, with this defund the police movement that we're seeing across the country right now, are they getting it wrong?

Well, I think we need to contextualize what African Americans are saying. What we're saying is we want you to focus more on high crimes such as gun violence in our community, rapes³, African American males, and young children go missing at greater numbers than white Americans. And those aren't - those missing reports aren't being taken serious. We're having a lot of break ins and vandalism that's happening in our community. And what we're saying is we want community presence to focus on those high crimes versus⁴ those low crime rates. Like unfortunately, what murdered Philando Castile, stopping us for a taillight being out or stopping us just on a stop and search. We want you to focus on real crime that is happening across the nation in all colors of - all communities of color. But we want you to focus on the real crime and stop over policing African Americans and people of color and focus on the crime, the drugs, the gun violence that's taking place, and really, really help us bring about change in our communities. That's what the poll is asking.
