A man of righteousness
Jerry miller1 was a politician with strong views. Convinced of his own righteousness, he was the perfect impersonation of a man of rectitude. His stiff walk-due to a knee-joint implant——added to his upright image. A deep sense of righteousness had been implanted in him by his puritan upbringing, which provided the impetus2 for his keen sense of ambition. Imperious in manner, he could be quite impersonal3 in his dealings with those whom he thought might impede4 his progress. Jerry was utterly5 impervious6 to criticism. His personal imperative7 was “Do what’s right, and to hell with the consequences!”
His ardent8 convictions impelled9 him to launch numerous projects the completion of which he regarded imperative. Anyone who dared contradict him was nothing other than impertinent in jerry’s eyes. He surrounded himself with an impermeable10 wall of secretaries, personal assistants and yes-men. Impetuous as he was, he would take stern measures against anyone whom he considered to be an impediment to his progress.
Sure of himself, he took every opportunity to pass on his superior knowledge to his audiences. It must be said, though, that the meaning of some of his speeches was often quite impenetrable to his ordinary listeners.
With his strict demeanour and his impeccable manner of dress he was for a long time considered impervious to any kind of attack, even though he haad made quite a number of enemies. One fine day, however, an invertigative reporter from the new york times uncovered some unsavoury details from jerry’s past. Jerry was to find out in the newspaper about his impending11 invertigation by the senate eghics committee. Having impersonated a man of rectitude for so long, this was a procedure jerry sould not face. He shot himeself the same evening.
