150 enough is enough
Betty Glover was in a militant1 mood as she approached to Brian, her husband of 25 years.
“Your idea of what you call our happy matrimony has been nothing but a mirage2, a figment of your minimalist imagination. The amount of money you have been providing me with has been minuscule4, just a bare minimum of support a loyal wife and mother might expect. It’s a miracle how I’ve been able to bring up the children on such a pittance5.”
“But darling,” Brian was looking for words.
“Don’t you darling me no more? I know why I’ve had to put up with male shovenism and meanness for many millennia6. You have been forcing me to minimize left, right and center, forcing me to go for minimum expenditure7 on our household necessities. The only thing you like to spend money on is your miniature railway. The enjoyment8 I have derived9 from being with you has been minimal3, to say the least. You’re lucky that I belong to that small minority of wives who stay for the sake of their children. But now the kids are out of the house, I have reached another milestone10 in my life. I’ve had enough of miming11 your words to them, just to pretend we’re a happy couple. I’ve had enough of being mimetic, and I’m no longer staying in this miserable12 Muja.”
“No but” Betty cut him off, “I’ve had enough of this mimicry15 of copying whatever you do, laughing at your jokes, go and find another fool to mimic14 your lifestyle. It is quite miraculous16 that I am managed to last this long, I’m getting away to mingle17 with a whole new set of people.”
