2. More than 3 dozen people have been killed in violence across Iraq today, including 3 who died in a morning suicide attack in Baghdad. Police also found 7 bodies north of Baquba and said 5 more people preparing to flee their home were killed.

3. The conservative Washington Times is calling for House Speaker Dennis Hastert to resign. The move follows Hastert's decision not to order an investigation¹ into sexually explicit² emails from now former Congressman³ Mark Foley to a former page. Hastert is brushing aside any suggestion of resignation.

4. Two Americans have won the Nobel Prize in physics: John Mather from the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland and George Smoot from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California. With the help of a NASA-launched satellite, the 2 were able to observe the universe in its early stages.
