Washington governor Jay Inslee says he's ordered immediate¹ steps to correct a computer glitch² that allowed several thousand prisoners to be released early. Computers were miscalculating sentences for some inmates³, letting about 3 percent of the prison population out early dating back to 2002.

Iraqi government troops made what's being called their most significant incursion into Ramadi since Islamic State militants⁴ captured the city in May. One US military spokesman is predicting a tough fight for the city west of Baghdad.

And a New Zealand judge ruled that internet entrepreneur Kim Dotcom and 3 of his colleagues can be extradited to the US. He's facing criminal copyright charges connected to his former file sharing site Megaupload.

And a fireball lit up the sky over several western states. US military officials say it was debris⁵ from a Russian rocket launched on Monday reentering the atmosphere.
