President Barack Obama laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns to honor members of the military who died serving their country. In his remarks, Obama called for Americans to honor the fallen by caring for those they leave behind, their families and their peers who come home.

An Iraqi commander told The Associated Press on Monday that counter-terrorism forces and police in Anbar province have started pushing into the Islamic State group-held city of Fallujah. Fallujah is one of the last major ISIS strongholds in Iraq.

The director of the Cincinnati zoo says staffers are receiving messages of support and condolences from around world after a gorilla¹ there was fatally shot to proect a 4-year-old boy who'd fallen into its enclosure. Zoo visitors are leaving flowers at the gorilla exhibit and asking how they can support gorilla conservation.

Wildlife officials in Sri Lanka rescued an elephant calf² after it fell into an uncovered drain. Rescue workers had to break open the drain to pull the animal out.
