A Brazilian police official tells the AP that the story of 4 US swimmers being robbed at gunpoint in Rio was false. According to the official, the swimmers were confronted by a security guard at a gas station after they forced open a bathroom door and vandalized the bathroom. Olympics officials say the swimmers made a mistake.

Democratic presidential nominee¹ Hillary Clinton spent part of her Thursday afternoon hearing from a select group of chiefs of police and sheriffs. Officers gathered in New York City to offer the nominee suggestions on how to reduce tensions between communities and police officers.

Southern California's big wildfire continues to grow. The fire command says the destructive blaze has scorched² more than 49 square miles. As of Thursday morning, up from 40 square miles Wednesday night.

And from Seattle to New York City, statues of a naked Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump³ caused a stir in major cities. This statue, seen standing⁴ in the buff as crowds snapped photos was removed by New York parks and recreation crews some time after installation.
