An outspoken¹ Manhattan federal prosecutor² known for crusading against public corruption³ says he was fired after refusing to resign. Preet Bharara made that announcement in a tweet. He was appointed by Barack Obama in 2009.

President Donald Trump⁴ praised Secret Service Saturday after an individual climbed an outer perimeter⁵ fence near the Treasury⁶ Department on Friday. From his golf club in Northern Virginia, Trump said Secret Service did a fantastic job.

Twin blasts near holy shrines⁷ frequented by Shias in the Syrian capital of Damascus killed at least 40 people on Saturday and wounded over 100. There was no immediate⁸ claim of responsibility, though Islamic State group militants⁹ have carried out similar attacks before.

The Chicago River turned bright green Saturday after it was dyed for St. Patrick's Day celebrations this weekend. The dye was spread in the river from the back of a boat ahead of a St. Patrick's Day parade downtown.
