 "But I am old," thought Baucis to herself, "and apt to be forgetful. I suppose I must have made a mistake." 但是我老了，柏西斯心里想，容易健忘了，我想我一定是搞错了。

"What excellent milk!" said Quicksilver, after drinking the second bowl. 多么美味的牛奶！水银喝完第二碗后说。

"Excuse me, my kind hostess, but I must really ask you for a little more." 对不起，善良的女主人，但是我真的得请您再来一点。

Now Baucis had seen as plainly as she could see anything, 如今柏西斯像看其他东西一样，

that Quicksilver had turned the pitcher¹ upside down and had poured out every drop of milk in filling the last bowl. 清清楚楚的看见水银把牛奶罐倒置过来，并把每一滴牛奶都倒进了最后的碗里。

Of course, there could not possibly be any left. 当然，牛奶罐里不可能再剩一点牛奶了。

She lifted the pitcher as if pouring milk into Quicksilver's bowl, but without any idea that any milk would stream forth². 她提起牛奶罐好像要往水银的碗里倒牛奶，但是她压根没有想到会有牛奶流出来。

What was her surprise, when the bowl was filled to the brim and overflowed³ upon the table! 使她感到惊奇的是，当碗被倒满后又溢到了桌子上！

The two snakes that were twisted about Quicksilver's staff stretched out their heads and began to lap up the spilled milk. 缠绕在水银手杖上的那两条蛇伸出头开始舔舐溢出来的牛奶。

"And now a slice of your brown loaf, Mother Baucis," said Quicksilver, "and a little of that honey!" 那么现在来一片黑面包，柏西斯妈妈，水银说，再来一点蜂蜜！

Baucis cut him a slice, and although the loaf, when she and her husband ate of it, had been rather dry and crusty, 柏西斯给他切了一片面包，虽然她和丈夫已经吃了一半那个面包，它已经很干很硬了，
