 　　But had any man in England met such a man as I was, it must either have frightened him or raised a great deal of laughter; 在英国，任何人看到我的样子，一定被吓着或者被逗得开怀大笑；

　　Stockings and shoes I had none; 我没有袜子和鞋；

　　but I made a pair of something, I scarce know what to call them, like buskins, to flap over my legs, and lace⁴ on either side like spatterdashes; 但是做了一双类似的东西，我几乎不知道该称它什么，有点像高筒靴，像绑腿一样从两侧系在腿上；

　　but they were of a most barbarous shape, as indeed were all the rest of my clothes. 但是它们的形状极其原始，实际上我的其他穿着也一样原始。
