 　　I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration¹ for freedom in the history of our nation.

　　Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic² shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation³ Proclamation. This momentous⁴ decree came as a great beacon⁵ light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering⁶ injustice⁷. It came as a joyous⁸ daybreak to end the long night of their captivity⁹.

　　100年前，一位伟大的美国人签署了《解放黑人奴隶宣言》——今天我们就是在他的雕像前集会。这项重要法令的颁布，对于那千百万在非正义残焰中挣扎的黑人奴隶来说，犹如带来希望之光的硕大灯塔，恰似结束漫漫长夜禁锢的欢畅黎明。

　　But one hundred years later, the Negro still is not free. One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation¹⁰ and the chains of discrimination.
