Tire shops around the state are busy these days. Why? Blowouts due to potholes1.
But why are there so many potholes when we've been paying more in fees and fuel taxes?
Zach Gorchow, editor of Gongwer News Service, joined Stateside today to explain. He recently wrote a blog titled, "Imploding2 Roads Natural Consequence Of 2015 Plan."
Listen above to hear Gorchow explain the 2015 road deal that raised the gas tax and vehicle registration3 fees, and called for money from the state's general fund by fiscal4 year 2021. He also explains how likely it is future legislators will actually spend the allotted5 general fund money on roads, and what it might take before Michigan is willing to pay sufficiently6 to maintain the roads.
