Former speaker of the house Dennis Hastert has been indicted1 on bank-related charges. A US attorney's officer in Chicago says the 73-year-old Illinois Republican is accused of structuring the withdrawal2 of more than $950 thousand in case to evade3 the requirement to report cash transactions over $10 thousand. Hastert is also accused of lying to the FBI.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is investigating how live anthrax that's shipped from an army lab to over a dozen civilian4 facilities. NPR's * reports a number of people are now being treated as a precaution.
The anthrax samples were supposed to be dead, but a lab in Maryland discovered late last week its shipment was still live. The CDC is now trying to figure out why the Army's Dugway Proving Ground in Utah shipped the live samples. Jason McDonald is the CDC spokesman.

In Los Angeles, prosecutors12 say they have arrested a man allegedly starting a huge blaze that destroyed an unfinished department building and damaged a nearby office tower. The LA county district attorney's office says 56-year-old Dawud Abdulwali was charged today. Prosecutors say he started the December's fire that caused up to $80 million in damage.
