If you have a smart phone you probably can’t even remember the last time you asked someone for directions. Getting from point A to point B has never been easier. And with features like satellite imagery and Google’s street view you can find out about your destination before you ever step out the door.
However, such convenience comes at a price. There are a lot of people who worry about privacy1 and don’t want random2 people on the Internet snooping around their front yard or looking through their windows.
report a problem street view
Luckily, there is an easy fix. You can ask Google to blur3 out images of your place. Here’s how you do it. First, open up Google Maps and put in your home address. In ‘street view,’ navigate4 to the scene you want blurred5 out. Next, hit the ”Report a problem” button in the lower-right corner. Then, go through the images and choose the parts you want blurred out.
Google does not release data on what percent of requests are accepted but it appears that most are.. There are also similar solutions for other map providers like Yahoo and Bing.
