Topic3-10 Phobias in modern society

Would you find yourself annoyed if a friend ignores your messages, but has the time to update his or her WeChat Moments?

Would you feel depressed¹ when your post receives no thumbs-up, whereas² a friend's post gets all the likes? Would you feel anxious during a flight, as once you touch down and switch your smart phone back on, messages and social media updates are going to flood in?

If you answered "yes" to any of the above, then you just might have a modern social phobia.

Professional psychiatrists³ have identified many different kinds of "phobia", from acrophobia⁴, or a fear of heights, to agoraphobia, or a fear of public spaces. These are often linked to genetic⁵ and psychological factors. Now we have drawn⁶ up a (very unscientific) list of 10 phobias that we've identified in everyday modern life.           

1 depressed
