Bye-bye, Grandpa
A young woman was walking through a supermarket topick up a few things when she noticed an old man followingher around. Thinking nothing of it, she ignored him andcontinued shopping. After she got what she wanted, she went to the checkout2 line, but the old man got in front of her.
“Pardon, me,” he said, “I’m sorry if my staring at you hasmade you feel uncomfortable. It’s just that you look justlike my granddaughter, who just died recently.
And I miss her very much.” “I’m very sorry,” replied the young woman.
“Is there anything I can do for you?”
“Yes,” the old man said. “As I’m leaving, can
you say ‘Bye-bye, grandpa’ to me? It would make me feel so much better.”
“Sure,” answered the young woman.
As the old man was leaving, she called out,
“Bye-bye, grandpa!”
When she stepped up to the checkout counter3,she saw that her total was $178.50.
“How can that be?” she asked. “I only bought a few things!”
“Your grandpa said you would pay for him,” said the clerk.
Washing a rabbit
A young boy, about seven years old, was at the corner "Mom & Pop" grocery5 picking out a pretty good size box of laundry6 detergent7.
The grocer4 walked over, and, trying to be friendly, asked the boy if he had a lot of laundry to do.
"Oh, no laundry," the boy said, "I'm going to wash my rabbit."
"But you shouldn't use this to wash your rabbit. It's very powerful8 and if you wash your dog in this, he'll get sick. In fact, it might even kill him."
But the boy was not to be stopped and carried the detergent to the counter and paid for it, even as the grocer still tried to talk him out of washing his rabbit.
About a week later the boy was back in the store to buy some candy. The grocer asked the boy how his rabbit was doing.
"Oh, he died," the boy said.
The grocer, trying not to be an I-told-you-so, said he was sorry the dog died but added9, "I tried to tell you not to use that detergent on your rabbit."
"Well," the boy replied, "I don't think it was the detergent that killed him."
"Oh? What was it then?"
"I think it was the Washing with him!"
