Do you come from a country that has let's say a history of environmental disaster or conquests, and your culture probably tight that has strong social norms and doesn't tolerate much deviance from this norms, and then your culture probably autocratic with free political or civil liberties, or a happier history probably let your culture being loose with more rights and openness, so says in the study in Journal Science.
Researchers survey almost 7000 people in 33 countries, they asked therespondents scale the truth of statements such as in this country if someone acts inappropriate way others will strongly disprove, participants also rate the acceptability of activity such as kissing in public, then the researchers correlate those answers with current and historical data about ecological1 and societal threats, population density2 and even the prevalence of diseases, they found the more stresses a society faced, whether ecological or human-made, the more likely the culture to be a tight one, the scientists say that its threat history could explain why a given culture could find others to be alien or immoral3, and appreciating the roots of culture differences could improve international communication.
