From the CNN Center in Atlanta, I'm Cory Kessler. Thanks for checking in with us. Here's a look now what is happening NOW IN THE NEWS.
Investigators1 look for answers in a deadly New York construction crane collapse2 this afternoon. At least one person is dead and two were critically injured after a construction crane collapsed3 on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The crane hit a high-rise apartment building, shredding4 a corner of the building's penthouse.
A plane made an emergency landing this afternoon on a golf course. It happened in New Berlin, Wisconsin. The plane landed on the 18th green of the course and slid into the trees. The body of the plane got a little bend up but a witness says the pilot got out of the plane and is apparently5 OK.
Texas authorities have collected DNA6 swabs from polygamist sect7 leader Warren Jeffs. A search warrant for the sample alleges8 Jeffs had so-called "spiritual" marriages with four girls, ages 12 to 15. These pictures are said to be of Jeffs with a spiritual bride. He is awaiting trial in Arizona on abuse charges. He's already been convicted in Utah of being an accomplice9 to rape10.
There will be a hearing this afternoon in Texas to discuss what's next in the FLDS custody11 case. Yesterday, the State Supreme12 Court ruled Child Welfare officials overstepped their authority in removing the more than 400 children two months ago and that the kids should go home. State workers said they removed the kids from the ranch13 because of allegations of sexual abuse.
And an 800-acre wildfire is threatening at least 100 homes today in southwestern Florida. The fire is burning just east of Naples and has charred14 a number of homes. A hundred people have been ordered to leave the area while firefighters try to bring it under control. It's about 50 percent contained and they say the fire is eating up a lot of dry vegetation and sending flames 20 feet into the air.
