 Dropping his harpoon¹, the brawny² savage³ caught him in his arms, and by an almost miraculous⁴ dexterity⁵ and strength, sent him high up bodily into the air;  这个身体结实的野人,丢下他的标枪,把他一把挟了起来,用一种简直是不可思议的灵巧和手劲,把他的身体一抛就抛得老高;

then slightly tapping his stern in mid-somerset, the fellow landed with bursting lungs upon his feet, while Queequeg,  然后在他翻斗的时候,朝他那尾梢轻轻一拍,那家伙就肺都要炸裂似地双脚落地了,

turning his back upon him, lighted his tomahawk pipe and passed it to me for a puff⁶. 魁魁格却转过身来,理都不理他,点燃起他那烟斗斧,递给我吸一口。

Capting! Capting! yelled the bumpkin, running toward that officer; Capting, Capting, here's the devil. 船长!船长!那乡巴佬高声叫嚷着,奔向船长那边去;船长,船长,你看那恶魔。

Hallo, you sir, cried the Captain, a gaunt rib⁷ of the sea, stalking up to Queequeg, what in thunder do you mean by that?  喂,你这老兄,瘦得象块船板的船长,昂首阔步地走到魁魁格跟前,叫了起来,你究竟为什么要这样做?

Don't you know you might have killed that chap? 你不知道你会把那家伙弄死吗?

What him say? said Queequeg, as he mildly turned to me. 他说什么?魁魁格温和地转过身来,对我说。

He say, said I, that you came near kill-e that man there, pointing to the still shivering greenhorn. 他说,我说道,你简直要把那边那个人给弄死了,我指着那个还在哆嗦的毛头小子。

Kill-e, cried Queequeg, twisting his tattooed⁸ face into an unearthly expression of disdain⁹, ah! him bevy¹⁰ small-e fish-e;  弄...死,魁魁格嚷了起来,他那张刺花的脸扭成一副可怕而蔑视的神情,哈,他是一条很小的小鱼鱼,

Queequeg no kill-e so small-e fish-e; Queequeg kill-e big whale! 魁魁格不杀...这样的小鱼鱼;魁魁格要杀...大鲸!

Look you, roared the Captain, I'll kill-e you, you cannibal, if you try any more of your tricks aboard here; so mind your eye. 喂!船长咆哮道,如果你敢再在这船上耍花样,我就要弄死你,你这生番;你要留神些。

But it so happened just then, that it was high time for the Captain to mind his own eye.  但是,就在这时,碰巧是轮到这个船长该自己留神的时候了。

The prodigious¹¹ strain upon the main-sail had parted the weather-sheet, and the tremendous boom was now flying from side to side,  由于风力过猛,主帆脱离了风帆,这时候,那只可怕的帆杠正在急速地左右飞摆,

completely sweeping¹² the entire after part of the deck.  整个后甲板都在它的扫射范围内。

1 harpoon   

n.鱼叉；vt.用鱼叉叉，用鱼叉捕获
