(Aside.) He wants to bully², ah!--the old grudge³ makes me touchy⁴ (Advancing.)  (旁白)他要吓唬人啦,啊!旧恨教我容易动肝火。(走上前来)

Aye, harpooneer, thy race is the undeniable dark side of mankind--devilish dark at that. No offence. 喂,标枪手呀,你们的族类,无可否认的是属于人类的黑派的而且象魔鬼一般黑。这并没有冒犯的意思。

DAGGOO (Grimly)None. 大个儿(凶巴巴的):一点也不对。

ST. JAGO'S SAILOR 圣。约哥水手:

That Spaniard's mad or drunk.  这个西班牙佬不是发疯就是喝醉了。

But that can't be, or else in his one case our old Mogul's fire-waters are somewhat long in working. 不过,发疯是不可能的,可照他那情形看来,要么是我们的老蒙兀儿的酒有点儿后劲。

DAGGOO (Springing) 大个儿(跳将起来):

Swallow thine, mannikin! White skin, white liver! 闭住你的狗嘴,矮仔!白皮仔,胆小鬼!

SPANISH SAILOR (Meeting him) 西班牙水手(冲着他):

Knife thee heartily⁵! big frame, small spirit!ALL 宰掉你!大个子,胆小鬼!全体:

A row! a row! a row! 吵架喽!吵架喽!吵架喽!

TASHTEGO (With a whiff) 塔斯蒂哥(喷口烟):

A row a'low, and a row aloft-Gods and men-both brawlers! Humph! 地上吵架,天上也在吵架...神和人...都是爱吵架的家伙!哼!

BELFAST SAILOR 贝尔法斯特水手:

A row! arrah a row! The Virgin⁶ be blessed, a row! Plunge⁷ in with ye! 吵架啦!唉,又吵架啦!天呀,又吵架啦!你们吵吧!

ENGLISH SAILOR 英国水手:

Fair play! Snatch the Spaniard's knife! A ring, a ring! 公平交易!夺掉那西班牙人的小刀!拳斗吧,拳斗吧!

OLD MANX SAILOR 人岛老水手:

Ready formed. There! the ringed horizon.  架势都摆好啦。哼!真是一副拳斗的场面。

In that ring Cain struck Abel. Sweet work, right work! No? Why then, God, mad'st thou the ring? 该隐就在这样的拳斗里把亚伯打死的。真干得好,真干得妙!不对吗?那么,上帝,是你搞起这场拳斗吗?
