"I am past scorching-, not easily can'st thou scorch¹ a scar." "我已是烧焦的过来人喽；你要烧了个疤，可也不容易呢。"

Well, well; no more. Thy shrunk voice sounds too calmly, sanely³ woeful to me. 好啦，好啦，别再说啦。你这种畏畏缩缩的声音，叫我听来，实在太平稳、太神志清醒了。

In no Paradise myself, I am impatient of all misery⁴ in others that is not mad. 我自己是没有至乐的，所以我听到别人那种并不发狂的一切，实在不耐烦。

Thou should'st go mad, blacksmith; say, why dost thou not go mad? 你应该发狂才好，铁匠；你说说看，你为什么不发狂？

How can'st thou endure without being mad? 你不发狂又怎么受得了？

Do the heavens yet hate thee, that thou can'st not go mad? — What wert thou making there? 是不是上天还在憎恨你，所以你才不会发狂？——你在干什么活儿？

Welding an old pike-head, sir; there were seams and dents⁵ in it. 在焊一只旧矛头，先生，这只矛头尽是缝缝和疤疤。

And can'st thou make it all smooth again, blacksmith, after such hard usage as it had? 它经过了这样猛烈的使用后，你还能把它再修得完全光光坦坦么，铁匠？

I think so, sir. 我想是可以的，先生。

And I suppose thou can'st smoothe almost any seams and dents; never mind how hard the metal, blacksmith? 铁匠呀，我想不管多硬的铁，你简直都无法把什么缝缝和疤疤都修得很光坦吧？
