19. Describe one difficulty¹ you have encountered² and how you overcome it. Include reasons and details to support your response.

 

Personally, I would like to say that the huge difficulty I have encountered is English listening.

As it is known³, in China, we don’t have enough opportunities to communicate in English.I took two steps to overcome the difficulty.The first step I wanna sayis dictation.In this way,I can increase my temporary memory and learn some new words.The second step isreading following the tape,by doing this, I can imitate⁴ the standard pronunciation and become familiar with the communication situation.The third stepis talking with my foreign teachers,soI can practice my spoken English and thus improve my listening ability.

1 difficulty   

n.困难，费劲；难事，难题；麻烦，困境

参考例句：

• If there is any difficulty,please let us know promptly.倘有困难，请迅速通知我们。
• A little difficulty like this is nothing to us.这点困难算不了什么。

2 encountered   

adj. 遇到的，遭遇的 动词encounter的过去式和过去分词

参考例句：

• We encountered a number of difficulties in the first week. 我们在第一周遇到了一些困难。
• The army encountered stiff resistance from rebels in the hills. 部队在山里遭到叛乱者顽强的抵抗。

3 known   

adj.大家知道的；知名的，已知的

参考例句：

• He is a known artist.他是一个知名的艺术家。
• He is known both as a painter and as a statesman.他是知名的画家及政治家。

4 imitate   

vt.模仿，仿效，摹拟，学样；仿制，仿造，伪造

参考例句：

• James can imitate his father perfectly.詹姆斯能逼真地模仿他父亲。
• Parrots imitate human speech.鹦鹉学人说话。
