Top NewsChinese Premier5 Meets with US Secretary of StateChinese Premier Li Keqiang has urged the United States to handle and control disputes with China in a constructive6 manner.
The Premier made the remarks when meeting with visiting US Secretary of State John Kerry on Saturday.
Li Keqiang says China is ready, on the basis of mutual7 respect and equality, to strengthen exchanges and communication with the United States. China hopes the US could do more to promote the mutual trust and regional cooperation.
Kerry echoes the two countries should commit to common development instead of competing with each other.
Kerry adds that the two sides should strengthen communication and coordination8 through mechanisms9 such as the Strategic and Economic Dialog (SED).
Both sides have agreed to step up negotiations11 on investment agreements and to strengthen cooperation in the field of climate change.
President Xi Jinping is expected to meet Kerry later on today.
China, US Agree to Narrow Differences through Talks.

Earlier on Saturday, China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi also met with visiting US Secretary of State John Kerry.
The two have pledged to build on bilateral12 relations and narrow differences through diplomacy13, especially when it comes to disputed issues such as the situation in the South China Sea.
CRI's Luo Bin14 with more.
Reporter:
The two senior diplomats15 have all voiced the idea that China and the United States have far more interests and cooperative opportunities than differences.
They also admitted that despite this, some differences still remain between the world's two leading economies.
Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed that both sides should act in a spirit of mutual respect, seeking common ground while shelving differences in a constructive manner.
"As to the differences, our attitude is that it doesn't matter if we have differences, so long as there is not misunderstanding or misjudgment."During the meeting, they also discussed a series of topics including the China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue in June and Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to the United States in September.
They have also talked about issues of common concerns, including the situation in the South China Sea.
Kerry said the United States is concerned over the pace and the scope of China's reclamation18 operation in the South China Sea.
"And I urged China through Foreign Minister Wang to take actions that will join with everybody in helping19 to reduce tensions and increase the prospect20 of a diplomatic solution. And I think we agree that the region needs "smart diplomacy" in order to conclude the ASEAN and China code of conduct, and not outposts and military strips."Wang Yi said that China's infrastructure21 improvement on the Nansha Islands is an affair within its own territorial22 sovereignty.
"What I would like to reiterate23 is that China's will in safeguarding its territorial sovereignty and integrity is solid as rocks and unquestionable. The related countries should seek a proper solution to the issue through direct talks, and on the basis of respecting the history and in line with international law, especially by diplomatic means as mentioned by the Secretary of State. This stance, which is our established stance, will never change in the future."Wang Yi added that as a country that joined the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, China is committed to fulfilling its obligations and responsibilities.
The two sides have also exchanged ideas on the nuclear talks with Iran and North Korea, as well as the China-proposed Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
Particularly, Wang Yi mentioned that it is "very necessary" for China and the US to sign a bilateral extradition24 treaty in the long run, hoping that the two sides could start the negotiation10 process as soon as possible.

Modi invites Top Chinese CEOs to "Make in India"; Deals Worth US$ 22 Billion SignedAnchor:
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's last day in China saw the signing of some 21 agreements worth over 22 billion US dollars.
As CRI's Poornima Weerasekara reports, Modi also met with top Chinese CEOs in Shanghai in an attempt to woo Chinese investors27 to manufacture in India.
Reporter:
The Indian Prime minister unleashed28 a charm-offensive on top Chinese CEOs in a bid to attract much needed infrastructure investments to India.
Narendra Modi had a candid29 roundtable chat with 22 top Chinese CEOs including Jack30 Ma of e-commerce giant Alibaba and Lin Bin, President of phone maker31 Xiaomi - which has already made inroads into India.
A confident Modi says his new government is "the most business friendly" regime in recent decades in India.
"You will already be knowing the direction of my government and the steps we are taking. We have committed ourselves to creating and improving the business environment. I can assure you that once you decide to be in India we are confident to make you more and more comfortable."Modi's top priority in China is to find ways to reduce India's 48 billion US dollar trade deficit32 with its neighbor. India's massive trade gap with China accounts for almost one third of its overall deficit.
Modi's aggressive "Made in India" campaign aims to attract Chinese manufacturers struggling with rising labour costs at home to shift production to India to save money.
Chinese CEOs are already warming to this message.
After Modi's speech, more than 20 business agreements worth over 22 billion US dollars were exchanged between Chinese and Indian companies.
These agreements cover a wide range of sectors33 from telecoms, steel, solar energy, and even a film-industry tie-up with Bollywood.
Modi also met with over 5000 Indians expats, living across China.
One of Modi's final stops in Shanghai included the inauguration34 of a center for Gandhian studies at prestigious35 Fudan University.
There, he re-iterated the message of non-violence and the need for the two Asian giants to work in tandem36 to achieve regional stability.
"We have complimented each other in the past. We can compliment in the present and future too. As two major economies in Asia, the harmonious37 partnership between India and China is essential for the economic development and political stability of the continent."Shanghai is the last stop of Modi's three day tour of China.
With his business-oriented policies and positive personal rapport38 with the Chinese President - evident when Xi Jinping decided39 to host Modi in his hometown - the Indian prime minister's visit is expected to set a new course for the relationship between Asia's two largest economies.
For CRI I'm Poornima WeerasekaraFour held by police over deadly China bus plungeChinese police are holding four people as part of the investigation40 of a fatal bus accident in Shaanxi province that claimed 35 lives.
Those detained are the bus driver, the bus owner, the legal representative of Xiangban trading company, and the organizer of the two-day tour.
Local authorities say preliminary investigation results blame Friday's fatal bus accident on the driver's mistake when making a curve.
An injured patient in the hospital recalled the accident:
"The driver said 'the brake failed.' We can't do anything about it. The bus made a turn. But there were cars in front of our bus. The driver was worried that he might hit other cars. He turned around and fell into the valley. When I regained41 consciousness, I realized that I could neither move my legs and arms, nor my chest."The bus carrying 46 people fell into a ravine some 30 meters deep.
Twenty-five people died at the scene and ten passed away in hospital.
The other are treated for injuries.
Passengers on the bus were residents from nearby cities, mostly elders.
They joined a two-day sight-seeing and shopping tour organized by the Xiangban trading company in Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi province.
The company leased four buses for the 193-member group.
The remaining members of the group are said to be safe.
Further investigation into the accident is underway.
Chinese Premier highlights innovation, entrepreneurshipAnchor:
It is being reported that Robots are being used more and more widely in China's manufacturing industry.
The development comes on the backdrop of the central government's moves to encourage innovation in industry.
CRI's Min Rui has more.
Reporter:
In recent years, robots are making great strides in China's manufacturing industry as an indispensable part of the workforce42.
In the factory of Midea, the country's home appliance giant, 800 units of industrial robots were introduced last year to its Guangzhou plant to solve the shortage of affordable43 labor44.
Manager of the engineering department at Midea's Guangzhou Plant Deng Yongge saw the improvement in production management when connecting the automated45 process with the so called "Internet of Things.""If like before, I couldn't modify data even if I know we will get unsatisfactory results. But now things are different. I can make the correction immediately once I know the imperfection. It can help us to control the results."In 2013, China overtook Japan and became the world's biggest market for industrial robots.
Last year, 56,000 industrial robots were sold on the Chinese market, up 54 percent from the previous year, accounting46 for 25 percent of the global market.
Minister of Industry and Information Technology Miao Wei says China has huge market potential in terms of replacing manpower with robots.
"In the past, half of the robots were used in the automobile47 industry. But now, the boundary has been pushed and robots have been popularized and used in electronic information and other industries."Increasing numbers of start-up businesses are equipped with new technology like Midea Group.
The development of new technology and innovation has been highlighted in the country's development strategy in recent years.
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Saturday reiterated48 that pledge at the start of a week-long science and technology campaign to boost innovation and entrepreneurship.
In the face of the "new normal" of slower growth, the government is vowing49 to upgrade industrial structures and further promote technological50 innovation and entrepreneurship.

Turkey shoots down Syrian aircraft over airplace violationTurkey says it has shot down a Syrian aircraft over violation56 of Turkish airspace near the Syrian border, but Syrian state media says it was only a remotely controlled surveillance drone.
The Syrian aircraft reportedly went down in Syrian territory near the villages of Dursunlu and Emek in the Hatay Turkish province.
A local eyewitness57 describes the course of the incident.
"It was around 1400pm (1100gmt). It was time for noon prayers. Turkish jet flew from there to the border. It was not clear what was happening. We got on the roof. The jet maneuvered58 and returned but after five seconds passed it intervened again. After the jet flew there and hit, smoke rose to the air."The Turkish military is investigating the type of the Syrian aircraft.
Morsi Sentenced to DeathAn Egyptian court has sentenced ousted59 President Mohammed Morsi to death over his part in a mass prison break that took place during the 2011 uprising that toppled Hosni Mubarak.
As is customary in passing capital punishment, Judge Shaaban el-Shami referred his death sentence on Morsi and others to the nation's top Muslim theologian, or mufti, for his non-binding opinion.
He set June 2 as the date for the next hearing.
"Mohamed Saad Tawfeeq Mostafa al-Katatny, Mohamed Mohamed Mursi Eissa al-Ayat, Essam al-Din Mohamed Hussein al-Arian, and has set the date June 2, 2015, to announce the [final] verdict."Morsi, Egypt's first freely elected president, was ousted by the military in July 2013 following days of mass street protests by Egyptians demanding that he be removed because of his divisive policies.
The ousted leader already is serving a 20-year sentence following his conviction on April 21 on charges linked to the killing60 of protesters outside a Cairo presidential palace in December 2012.
Humanitarian61 Agency Raises Nepal Aid Appeal to $93 MlnThe Red Cross has raised its appeal for aid to quake-hit Nepal to $93 million.
The humanitarian agency revised its initial request for $35 million USD after Tuesday's earthquake hit the Himalayan country.
Elhadj As Sy, secretary general of the International Federation62 of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies called for a wider response.
"Reason is the fact that we had a second shake that we did not have before, that exacerbated63 the situation that we found at the beginning, and areas which were not really affected64 becoming more affected. Some districts, where we are now registering with the second shake, up to 90 percent of all houses destroyed."An 8.1-magnitude earthquake devastated65 Nepal on April 25, killing more than 8,000 people.
The second one, with a magnitude of 7.3 made the situation even more dire4.
So far over 1,000 Chinese military personnel and members of armed police forces are working in Nepal.
In some worst-hit villages, soldiers of the Chinese army have played various roles in such jobs as making tents, carrying relief supplies, and providing medical service.
Chosang is one of the villagers in the quake-hit area, expressed gratitude66 to the rescue teams for their efforts in reconstruction67.
"We are most grateful to the road-repair team for their efforts. Now we can go to both Kathmandu and Zham."China's air force dispatched eight transport planes, three helicopters carrying relief supplies and 190 pieces of engineering machinery68.
Former rescue worker develops early warning earthquake appAnchor:
After a natural disaster, minutes - or even seconds - can be the difference between life and death.
Pierre-Marie Sarant, founder69 of CynSIS, is trying to harness those precious seconds with a smartphone app that alerts people when an earthquake strikes.
CRIs' Guo Yan reports.
reporter:
The app is called 'QuakeShare' and works by using an internal mini gyro-directional system and GPS technology built in smartphones.
Sarant explains how the app works.
"As we detect that (seismic tremors) on a smartphone, we transmit the data to our server on the cloud. That server will collect different data from other smartphones and then our algorithm will analyze70 collected data and tell us if it is true or not (that an earthquake is occurring). All that happens in couple of seconds."The app creates a real-time alert during the event of an earthquake, informing state authorities, rescue teams and humanitarian organizations that subscribe71 to the service.
Users can also use the app to share useful information with rescue teams.
To avoid erroneous alerts, information from users' smartphones is transmitted to a distant server that compares data with others received in the same area.
Sarant says once an earthquake is confirmed, a general alert is sent out.
"On a smartphone screen, here the chronometer72 indicates that confirmed earthquake is occurring since two seconds. People know that time is running and that they should reach safety, by the way - that was what the app tells them to do."The locations of app users will also be used to better target aid and gather much-needed information.
Sarant explains how the app locates users"The idea is to geo-localise them, and if by accident, there is no more power, no more mobile network, we know where were people at the moment of the earthquake. We will make sure not to consume too much power (of the smartphone), but also that we send messages that are light and don't congest the network and (we will make sure) that it works in situation of bad network."The app also features a control panel for authorities, organisations, rescue teams and other customers.
It allows them to gather a global picture of a developing humanitarian disaster.
Sarant says authorities can be informed immediately once a natural disaster occurs.
We can imagine the authorities of one country, or rescue teams… they will be alerted immediately. As soon as we confirm the earthquake, they will be informed. If they look the chart they will see the chart deployed73 in real time and show the progress of the (seismic) wave and (geo-localised) people on it. So they can (immediately) be in the situation of crisis, they can already think about their actions."Having previously74 worked in rescue teams which travelled round the world to save lives following natural disasters, Sarant imagined a practical tool that may one day become a standard feature on every smart phone.
The app does have some drawbacks. Because of its reliance on networks and the internet, it may not work in certain remote areas of the world.
But that doesn't mean it can't benefit the millions of people that currently live in earthquake prone75 areas.
The app is still in the development phase and is expected to be released by the end of this year.
Sarant says there are ongoing76 negotiations with potential clients in Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and some countries in the Mediterranean77.

Medvedev orders to investigate failure of Russia's Proton rocketA Russian rocket carrying a Mexican satellite has failed just before the detachment of the satellite in the atmosphere.
Roscosmos announced that the Proton-M space rocket has almost completely burnt together with the satellite.
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has ordered an investigation into the failure.
The rocket was launched from the Baikonur space center in Kazakhstan on Saturday.
The satellite and its launch were insured by the customer, while third party liability was insured by the Russian side.
Also on Saturday, a planned correction of the International Space Station's orbit could not be carried out after the engines of the Progress M-26M cargo78 ship failed to start on time.
Preliminary data suggests the engine failure was probably related to a control system fault.

Sci&Tech (Sunday)Anchor:
It's time to check on what's happed84 in the science and technology world in the past week in our Weekly Sci-Tech feature.
China is now making preparations for the launch of the Chang'e-5 lunar probe. Researchers in the UK are warning that the ice-melt in the Antarctic is accelerating. And the world's first warm-blooded fish has been discovered.
Let's catch up with all that and more with our reporter Wenjie.
Reporter:
China will launch the Chang'e-5 lunar probe around 2017 from the southern province of Hainan, the final stage of the country's lunar exploration program.
Chang'e-5 is expected to return to earth with moon rocks.
Wu Weiren, chief designer of China's lunar exploration program, said a number of tests are underway.
"At present, the program of bringing samples from the moon is progressing well. The preparation work consists of three major parts. One is the construction of the launching site in Hainan which is proceeding85 well. The second is the development and tests of the large carrier rocket Long March-5. And the third is the development of the Chang'e-5 lunar probe."Wu said a series of large-scale tests are needed for the mission as it requires higher standards and capabilities86 from the carrier rocket and from the lunar probe.
"We have completed the test of separation of the Chang'e-5 probe and the carrier rocket. We also have a number of large-scale ground tests to be carried out. Besides, we have to carry out the compatibility test between the rocket and the launching base as well as the rocket and the probe."China successfully sent its first moon rover Yutu, or Jade87 Rabbit, to the moon in December two years ago.
The lunar exploration program began in 2007.
//////////////////////A group of Chinese scientists claim they have, for the first time, mapped out the migration88 routes of black-headed gulls89, doing so with the aid of GPS trackers.
The gulls begin their northward90 journey from Kunming city in southwest China, flying through Sichuan, Shaanxi, Gansu and Ningxia.
The birds stop in Ningxia for more than two weeks before resuming their journey to the final destination in Siberia, Russia.
Experts used to rely on the recovery of bands from tagged birds to research the migration of black-headed gulls.
However, the information obtained through that method was very limited.
Last December, scientists put GPS trackers on 34 black-headed gulls.
Wu Heqi, a Ph.D with the Kunming Institute of Zoology91, said they are now able to follow black-headed gulls more efficiently92.
"The first is their migration route. Now we can see 17 to 19 routes northward. This is the first result. The second result is about their activities in Kunming, or their routine action while wintering here."May to July is the breeding season for black-headed gulls.
/////////////////////A team of medical experts in China and Australia have reported a breakthrough they say could lead to life-long immunity93 from the flu.
The experts have discovered what they call a flu-killing T-cell that memorizes strains of influenza94 and destroys them.
T-cells are regarded as the body's "army of hit men", which kill the cells infected by the virus.
The medical team began working together during the first outbreak of avian flu in China in 2013.
The breakthrough could lead to the development of a vaccine95 to fight all new influenza viruses.
It also could lead to a one-off universal flu-vaccine shot.
////////////////////Researchers in the UK have found evidence that Antarctic ice is at risk from above and below, accelerating the possible break up of an ice sheet almost as big as Scotland.
The study, led by the British Antarctic Survey, was based on 15 years of satellite data and radar96 survey.
David Vaughan is the director of science at the British Antarctic Survey.
"The measurements that we've been making on Larsen C ice shelf have shown that the ice shelf itself is thinning. But we haven't known until now whether that thinning was occurring from the surface or from the (sea) bed - from the surface as a result of air-temperature changes, or underneath97 as a result of changes in the ocean circulation. The measurements that we've made have shown that both those effects are occurring - both the surface thinning and the base melting - this ice shelf is being attacked from two sides."Larsen C has lost an average of four metres of ice and had lowered by one metre at the surface.
Scientists are warning the melting of the iceberg98 would impose great risks to low-lying communities from the Pacific to Bangladesh.
Dr Paul Holland is the lead author with the British Antarctic Survey.
"If Larsen C ice shelf were to collapse99, then we've got some 10 or 20 large glaciers100 that it's currently holding back. All of these glaciers would speed up, discharging ice from the land into the ocean, and this would draw down a huge amount of ice that's currently grounded, sitting on the Antarctic Peninsula, and turn it directly into sea-level rise."Meantime, scientists in Australia say that sea levels are rising faster than previously thought due to incorrect data taken from satellite readings.
Scientists compared the satellite readings with tide gauges101 that were placed in the sea.
The satellite readings showed that sea levels rose rapidly during the 1990s but slowed over the next decade, while the gauges tell a different story.
Experts said satellites overestimated102 the rate of sea level rise in the first six years of data collection, and that distorted the long-term projection103.
The revised data predicts that sea level could rise as much as one metre in the next eight decades, putting more than 150-million lives at risk.
//////////////////////The world's largest hurricane simulator is now operational in the US State of Florida.
The 15 million US dollar wind and wave machine at the University of Miami resembles a giant aquarium104, without the fish.
It's powered by a 17-hundred horsepower engine, which rolls the 38-thousand gallons of water it holds.
A fan attached to the machine then blows winds of 156-miles per hour to simulate a Category 5 Hurricane.
A model of a home is quickly drenched105 by crashing waves that resemble a real-life storm surge assaulting a coastal106 property.
Lead scientist Brian Haus says the tank's key purpose is to improve hurricane intensity107 forecasting.
"It's important to study and to measure what's happening, where the ocean and atmosphere meet in hurricanes, because we have no data from the field. It's really hard to get out there and make these measurements in nature. So we can measure in the laboratory, so that can help scientists to better understand what's happening."Researchers also hope to use the tank to explore how storms will damage homes and buildings along the US south coast.
//////////////////////Scientists have found the first warm-blooded fish in the world.
The fish, called Opah, or moonfish, generates heat by constantly flapping its wing-like fins108.
Other fish like tuna can only warm certain regions of their body at key times to boost swimming speed.
The Opah weighs up to 90 kilograms and is about the size of a car tire.
Its oval body shape also helps prevent heat from being lost to the environment.
The Opah usually stays at depths of 50 to 400 meters, feeding on fish and squid.
Deep-water fish are usually relatively109 slow and sluggish110.
However, the opah is more active, for the warm body gives the fish some distinct advantages, including faster swimming speeds and better eye and brain function.
