Top NewsChinese President to attend 7th BRICS summit: FMAnchorMore details have been revealed concerning Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Russia this week for two international summits.
CRI's Niu Honglin has more.
ReporterThe seventh BRICS summit is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday and the 15th meeting of the Council of Shanghai Cooperation Organization Heads of State for Thursday and Friday in Ufa, Russia.
It's the third time that President Xi has attended the BRICS summit.
Chinese Vice3 Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping says coordination4 and cooperation on global and regional issues will be discussed.
"The leaders of the five countries will hold a series of small scale meetings to exchange views on cooperation as well as regional and international issues of common concern and then jointly6 issue the Ufa Declaration after the summit. During the meeting, they will also hold dialogues with the delegates from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Eurasia Economic Union, as well as other international organizations."The Chinese side has also expressed confidence on economic cooperation among the BRICS countries, saying the newly established development bank and emergency reserve arrangement have given fresh impetus7 to growth.
"BRICS is an emerging market and cooperation platform for developing countries, emphasizing economy and development. It is neither a military alliance nor a political group. We are not against any third party and we have an open, transparent8 and win-win cooperation."About the SCO summit, leaders at the meeting are slated9 to discuss the development strategy for the regional organization, and reinforced the joint5 commitment on drug control.
The decision on starting procedures for India and Pakistan to join the SCO is also scheduled to be adopted at the Ufa summit.
Vice Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping says China welcomes SCO expansion, and will make its due contribution.
"China will keep taking its responsibility in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, will keep proposing initiative so that members of SCO may strengthen their security cooperation, ally their respective developing strategies together and also reinforce their cultural exchanges. China encourages all parties to take the summit as an opportunity to speed up a new round of development of SCO, to enhance the overall level of cooperation in various fields and to expand its international influence. "During his stay there, President Xi Jinping will have bilateral10 meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
It's the second meeting between the two heads of state this year and the fifth over the past two years.

A meeting between leaders from China, Russia, and Mongolia has also been scheduled.
For CRI, I'm Niu HonglinNew evidence on Tokyo Trial ReleasedAnchorToday is the 78th anniversary of the July 7 Incident of 1937, which marks the beginning of China's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.
Evidence from the Tokyo Trial held by the International Military Tribunal for the Far East nearly 70 years ago has recently been published by Shanghai Jiaotong University.
As CRI's Sophie Williams reports, the collection once again serves as proof of the atrocities11 committed by Japan during the Second World War.
ReporterThe Tokyo Trial, running from 1946 to 1948, charged 28 Japanese military and political leaders with Class A war crimes.
However, mainly due to political reasons, China had almost no academic books focused on this period of history.
Meanwhile, for the past a few decades, many right-wing Japanese politicians and historians doubt the justice of the trial and thus distort the reality, and even try their best to reverse the verdicts, since they think the Tokyo Trial represents a blow to the country's national confidence.
Liu Tong, a professor of the Center for the Tokyo Trial Studies of Shanghai Jiaotong University, explains that relevant files on Tokyo Trial have been brought to light out of a sense of a historian's responsibility to uncover the truth in past events.
"Currently, the Japanese right-wing groups are making aggressive comments, while we've hardly done anything academically on the basic research of Tokyo Trial. Thus, bearing a historian's responsibility, we founded the Center for the Tokyo Trial Studies. After that, the first step is to carry out basic research, and specifically collect original documents."Liu adds that they have gone through a series of hardships, since many Japanese military officers have tried their best to destroy the relevant documents concerning their war crimes, thus those original files are difficult to come by.
The collection of the Tokyo Trial's evidence includes 50 volumes in Japanese and 3 volumes of indexes in Chinese.
The book is the second published by Shanghai Jiaotong University after its previous work 'The Proceedings12 of International Military Tribunal for the Far East' was published two years ago.
Liu Tong says that the two books complement13 each other.
"You couldn't try and sentence without any evidence. However, most of this evidence might not be listed in the trial records, or might have mentioned just a few words after being submitted. Thus, the 80-volume of trial records and the 50-volume evidence collection are both irreplaceable historical files for research into the Tokyo Trial. "The two books have both been regarded as precious basic files for researchers who are looking for dependable evidence of Japan's war crimes.
For CRI, this is Sophie Williams.
China to Commemorate14 Anniversary of The Victory of Anti-Japanese WarAnchorChina will host a series of activities over the next three months to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.
CRI's Xiao Yee has more.
ReporterDozens of films, television works and publications will be presented across China from July to October.
Deputy Chief of China's State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television Tian Jin says these works will highlight China's contributions to the World Anti-fascism War and promote patriotism15.
"Through the film and television works and publications, we celebrate the great historical significance of the victory of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and our great national spirit focusing on patriotism. Those works and publications reflect the hardships of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, highlight the importance of the Chinese battlefield in the World Anti-fascism War, inspire national spirit and extol16 patriotic17 values."Vice Cultural Minister Dong Wei says in terms of stage productions, over 180 repertoires18 and newly-created plays will be performed nationwide.
He adds that the Ministry19 of Culture will hold an art exhibition at the National Art Museum of China from August 10 to September 20 in collaboration20 with other departments.
"So far, we have received more than 1,500 artworks from all over the country, and more than 400 excellent works will be presented to the general public."The General Political Department of China's armed forces will also hold exhibitions, release films, documentaries and books, and stage performances.
Li Zhensheng, with the Army's General Political Department says the exhibitions will help people understand that period of history in a 'comprehensive' way.
"We will hold two exhibitions. One is at the Military Museum between July 15 and Sept. 15, at which we will display a series of pictures, cultural relics21 and charts of important historical value. They will demonstrate the entire course of the Chinese people and the army's war of resistance against Japanese aggression led by the Communist Party of China in a comprehensive way,"The Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression was an important part of the world's anti-fascist war.
Incomplete statistics show that more than 35 million Chinese soldiers and civilians22 lost their lives in the war.

China Warns of Approaching Two TyphoonsProvinces in eastern China are on high alert as two typhoons are expected to bring gales34 and storms and worsen flooding in coastal35 regions.
Among the three typhoons that have formed on the northwest Pacific are Chan-hom and Linfa, respectively the ninth and tenth typhoons this year.
China's National Meteorological Center predicted that the two typhoons will affect China in the coming days.
Taiwan has issued the sea warning, ordering all shipping36 to remain in harbor as Linfa is nearing.
Yan Zengxi, a forecaster with Taiwan's weather bureau, introduces the situation.
"Between July 8 moring and July 9, Taiwan will under its influence. The east and south parts of Taiwan will see rainstorms and gales during this period."Linfa is expected to land on the Chinese mainland on Thursday, while Chan-hom will lash37 China's eastern coast on Friday.
Zhejiang Province on Monday initiated38 an emergency response to flooding, saying the approaching typhoons may worsen its flood situation.
The province has seen persistent39 rain since June 7, which has caused serious flooding and geological disasters in its mountain areas.
The southeastern province of Fujian has also warned of strong winds and huge waves in the coming three days.
Chinese FM joins Iran nuclear talks as deadline loomsChinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has returned to Vienna for the second time in a week to join the Iran nuclear talks as a self-imposed deadline for a deal is due to expire today.
Wang says the talks have achieved significant progress but differences remain.
"There are still a few issues left on the conference table, and from our point of view, it is possible that we could find solutions for these issues. That is to say, a comprehensive Iran nuclear agreement is at our fingertips. Monday and Tuesday will be the critical time for all parties, especially the United States and Iran, to make a final political decision."As part of Monday's session, Wang Yi had a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Iran and the five UN Security Council permanent members plus Germany are trying to reach a final comprehensive agreement on Iran's controversial nuclear program,Both parties are hoping to clinch40 a deal today, setting a decade of restrictions41 on the nuclear program and granting Iran significant relief from international sanctions.
Some Western officials say a dispute over U.N. sanctions on Iran's ballistic missile program and a broader arms embargo42 are among issues holding up a deal.
Iran is reportedly insisting that all the UN sanctions, including on the ballistic missiles, should be lifted but world powers want it to be remain under sanctions.
Separately, a senior Iranian official says Tehran wants a UN arms embargo terminated as well but a Western diplomat43 says a removal is "out of the question".
EU presses Greece for new proposals to restart talksEuropean officials are pressing Greece to come up with serious proposals in order to restart financial aid talks, a day after the country voted overwhelmingly against new bailout terms setting more austerity measures.
Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is due to address a summit of eurozone leaders on Tuesday.
After a meeting in Pairs with French President Francois Hollande, German Chancellor44 Angela Merkel stressed the importance of Greece taking "responsibility" for reforming its economy.
"We're saying very clearly that the door for talks remains45 open. But at the same time, we're saying that the preconditions to enter negotiations46 for a concrete European stability program are not given at this time. This means that tomorrow, it will be important that the Greek prime minister tells us how to proceed, and what precise proposals he can offer us regarding a mid-term program that will lead Greece back into prosperity and growth."For his part, Hollande also urged the Greek government to make serious, credible47 proposals for the country to stay in the euro zone.
Eurozone finance ministers are to meet first before the leaders' meeting.
In a sign that Athens is keen to seek a new deal, Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis has resigned, apparently48 under pressure from other eurozone finance ministers who did not want him as a negotiating partner.
He has been replaced by Greece's lead negotiator Euclid Tsakalotos, who has vowed50 to capitalize on Sunday's referendum to seek a sustainable solution to the country's debt crisis.
"They resisted and they said that this land deserves something better. We cannot accept a non-sustainable solution. The vote has class characteristics. Ordinary people, working people, the middle class, those who lost their businesses, said that they want to trust a government that will bring us a sustainable solution."In another development, the European Central Bank has decided51 to keep a tight grip on funding to Greek banks, which have been closed for more than a week to avoid a massive outflow of money that could lead to their collapse52.
The ECB has also decided to raise the amount of collateral53 Greek banks must post for any loans.
Banks in Greece are to stay closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.
They had been due to reopen on Tuesday, but the Greek banking54 association decided to extend the bank holiday following talks on Monday.
Obama says anti-ISIL strategy effectiveAnchorU.S. President Barack Obama says military attacks launched by U.S. and coalition55 forces against Islamic State militants56 in Syria and Iraq are making progress.
But he cautioned that more work remains to be done.
For more on this story, here is our Washington chief correspondent Xiaohong.
ReporterPresident Obama made the remarks on Monday after a meeting with the military brass57, saying the current strategy is effective.
"Altogether, ISIL has lost more than a quarter of the populated areas that it had seized in Iraq. And in Syria, ISIL lost Kobani. It recent endured losses across northern Syria, including the key city of Talabia, denying ISIL of vital supply route to Raqqah, its base of operations in Syria."He stressed that the United States is working with 60 countries and more local forces are joining the efforts. He pledged that the U.S. will continue to provide training and equipment to local forces, including to Kurdish and tribal58 forces.
The President also cautioned that the United States and other countries must remain vigilant59 against "lone60 wolves" who might be inspired by the Islamic State to launch terrorist attacks on US soil.
"This broad challenge of countering violent extremism is not simply a military effort. Ideologies61 are not defeated with guns. They are defeated by better ideas, more attractive and more compelling vision."President Obama also called for diplomatic and economic efforts that include efforts to cut off terrorists' money.
He also ruled out the possibility of sending more U.S. troops to the region.
The U.S.-led war against the Islamic State began last August and continues with almost daily air strikes. However, many are critical of the results, calling for a more robust62 U.S. response against IS.
Defense63 Secretary Ash Carter and Army Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, are scheduled to testify on Tuesday before the Armed Services Committee of the Senate on the Pentagon's strategy against the Islamic State militants.

Worries Not Fading One year since the Gaza WarAnchorIt's been one year since a military conflict between Israel and the Gaza Strip.
While the current situation remains relatively64 quiet, people on both sides are not optimistic about the future.
CRI's Qizhi has more.
ReporterGaza resident Jalal's house was totally destroyed during last year's Gaza war. After staying for three months in a shelter of the UN's Relief and Works Agency, or UNRWA, he and his family now live in a rented flat.
"UNRWA promised to rebuild our house, but until now nothing has been renewed. When we talked to UNRWA, they said there's no money to rebuild houses now. They just gave us four month rental65 to rent a flat. Is there any future for Gaza? (bitter smile) The war will return again. It will become worse and worse. The future is dark for Gaza."The conflict last year between Israel and Gaza started on July 7 and killed over 2,100 Palestinians and more than 70 Israelis in 51 days.
Adnan Abu Hasna, a spokesperson of UNRWA in Gaza, says the situation in Gaza is deteriorating66.
"There's a great delay in the reconstruction67 process. A small amount of building materials is getting into Gaza. It's functioning for the minor68 damage, but for the severe-damaged shelters and the totally-demolished shelters, actually nothing happened. The economic situation is collapsing69. It's a complete tragedy. Actually you can say there's no tomorrow in Gaza."Across the border, on the Israeli side, life is also not easy for the residents.
Danny Cohen, a resident of Kibbutz Ein HaShlosha, which is less than 2 kilometers from the border with Gaza, says the recent rocket hits have brought them back to the fear and concerns of one year ago.
"There's quite a bit of disappointment that nothing has changed. We are living in anticipation70 of the next time. We always feel we are before and after (the war), we cannot see in the future any quiet or calm. Every time that something happens like last summer, things get worse and tougher."While the Israeli army is keeping alert to any possible attacks from the other side of the border, for Israelis people, the repeating scenario71 of war shouldn't be continued.
Anat Heffetz, a resident of Kibbutz Nirim, which is 2 kilometers from Gaza, says the only solution is a political one.
"I think we need to talk to Hamas. I think we need to support and advance the reconstruction of Gaza. There needs to be an opening of the cross borders, with of course very strong security measures ensuring the safety of people. Leaving things the way they are means there's going to be another round of violence very very soon. Recent history proved that military operations are not the answer. There needs to be a strong shift in the Israeli policy."For CRI, I'm qizhi.
