Turkish President to Visit ChinaAnchor:
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is scheduled to visit China on Wednesday and Thursday at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
CRI's Luo Wen has more.
Reporter:
This is the first visit to China for Recep Tayyip Erdogan as the Turkish President and the third as the leader of ruling Justice and Development Party.
China's special envoy19 on Middle East affairs Gong Xiaosheng says Erdogan's visit will help boost mutual20 understanding between the two sides.
"Both sides have attached great importance to Erdogan's visit to China. Substantial talks will be held on various areas like trade, culture and tourism during this visit. Special attention will be paid to economic and trade cooperation. China and Turkey may try to explore ways deepen cooperations on transportation, energy and telecommunications, which is conducive22 to the common interest of both sides."The trade volume between China and Turkey has been over 20 billion dollars since 2012, and China has become the second economic partner for Turkey.
Moreover, cultural exchanges between China and Turkey have also been growing quickly in recent years.
"China and Turkey jointly23 celebrated25 the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The Year of China in Turkey was held in 2012 and the Year of Turkey in China was held in 2013. Chinese tourists can be seen almost everywhere in Turkey. At the same time, a great number of Turkish people are doing business in China."Speaking of international and regional affairs, Gong Xiaosheng says China and Turkey share the same ideas on many issues.
"Turkey plays an important role in many international and regional problems, especially on the Middle East issue. It will do good to the situation in the Middle East when more countries get involved in promoting the Middle East peace process. We hope more and more countries will play its constructive26 role in improving the situation in the Middle East. We will actively27 strengthen our cooperation with Turkey in the hope of creating more favorable conditions to tackle regional issues."Gong Xiaosheng also believes that China and Turkey should have closer cooperation in the global struggle against terrorism.

Japan's upper house starts debate on contentious28 war bills amid plunging29 support for Abe gov'tJapan's upper house of parliament has begun discussions on a package of controversial security bills.
It's been reported that deliberations between governing and opposition30 parties will begin on Tuesday.
If approved, the bills will allow for Japan's Self-Defense31 Forces to have an expanded role abroad, despite thousands of local people took to the streets in protests.
The controversial bills have been forced through the lower house of parliament on July 16th by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's ruling coalition32 bloc33.
Reports say Abe told the upper house session on Monday that the new security legislation was indispensable and intimated that there may be situations whereby Japan's forces are required to respond with force.
The start of the deliberations in the upper house comes on the heels of Japan releasing its annual defense white paper last week.
People Visit the Cecilienhof Palace, Marking the 70th Potsdam AnniversaryAnchor:
Seventy years have passed since the Potsdam Proclamation was issued in Germany.
To mark the anniversary on Sunday, large numbers of tourists from around the world visited the historic site where the proclamation was made, remembering that period of history and the legacy34 it has left to the world.
CRI's Niu Honglin has the story.
Reporter:
The Cecilienhof Palace, located in a large park, close to a lake shore, is known for being the location of the Potsdam Conference, which was held in July and August 1945.
On July 26, 1945, a document was issued there by China, the United States and Britain, demanding Japan's unconditional35 surrender in WWII.
Despite originally ignoring the Potsdam Proclamation, Japan did eventually announce its surrender on August 15th, and formally signed the articles of peace based on the Potsdam Proclamation on September 2nd, 1945.
Matthias Simmich was the deputy curator of Cecilienhof Palace.
"The Potsdam Proclamation explicitly36 said that all the territories that Japan took from China before World War II shall be restored to the Chinese. Northeast China and Taiwan were included."German historians and politicians have urged Japan to admit to its history of aggression ahead of the upcoming anniversary of the proclamation.
Stefan Bollinger, professor with the Institute of Political Science under the Free University of Berlin, says Japan's aggression to its neighboring countries actually started years before 1945.
"I believe Japan, especially its leadership, has not acknowledged that what they have done in Asia, countries such as China, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the Philippines and Cambodia in dozens of years before 1945, the aggression and destructive war. It was a crazy destructive war, a brutal37 war full of crimes. For example, Japanese unit 731 employed modern methods to carry out killing38 as genocide. But even today, most Japanese elites39 and members of the public do not treat these as issues that need to be discussed."Manfred Goertamaker is a professor of contemporary history at the University of Potsdam.
He says Germany has acknowledged the wrongdoings of Nazi40 Germany during the war, admitted its wartime atrocities41 and earnestly repented42. However, Japanese actions have been totally different.
"In Germany, people are actively reflecting on the past. The historians are trying to expose historical truth. And the reflection features on the political level as well as legal level. However, we cannot see such historical reflection at all in Japan. A new force with the notion of so-called 'normal country' is developing in Japan; its textbooks even deny its war crimes."To mark the 70th anniversary of the Potsdam Conference, a series of special events are scheduled to be held in the Cecilienhof Palace from this July to September this year.
Decades after the end of the historic event, the original furnishings of the rooms used for the Potsdam Conference are still well preserved. Some visitors say they feel the original decoration and exhibition shows a respect for the history and people should also take the same attitude when it comes to the historical truth.

Obama arrives in Ethiopia for crucial talks with African leadersUS President Barack Obama has arrived in Ethiopia in the second-leg of his East African tour.
Obama is the first serving US leader to visit the country.
He is expected to hold bilateral43 talks with Ethiopian Prime minister Hailemariam Desalegn on trade and security issues in the region.
Obama will also be the first US president to address the 54-member African Union at its headquarters in Addis Ababa on Tuesday.
During his meeting with African leaders, Obama will focus on the escalating44 civil conflict in South Sudan and push for a plan that includes economic sanctions and an arms embargo45 if South Sudan's warring parties do not forge a peace deal by mid-August.
South Sudan has been plagued by a brutal civil war since 2013 that has killed more than 10,000 people and caused more than 1.5 million people to flee their homes.
Ethiopia, sandwiched between Somalia and Sudan is a key security ally of the United States in this volatile46 region.
Thousands of Ethiopian troops are fighting the al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab in Somalia that was behind the deadly hotel bombing in the Somali capital Mogadishu that left 13 people dead on Sunday.
Since the devastating48 famine in the 80s, Ethiopia has been transformed in the last quarter of a century and is now one of Africa's fastest-growing economies.
Koreas Marking Truce49 with WarningsAnchor:
Both North and South Korea are marking the anniversary of the Korean War armistice50 agreement.
But the commemorations come with provocative51 language from both sides.
CRI's Zhao Jianfu reports.
Reporter:
Early on Monday, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun in Pyongyang, the mausoleum for former leaders Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il.
The visit is part of the country's commemorations marking the 62nd anniversary of the Korean armistice.
In the still photos released by the state-run television KRT, Kim Jong Un bows in front of the statues of the two late leaders, along with government and military officials.
The truce was signed on July 27 in 1953.
The North recognizes it as "Victory Day."This year's memorials also include a massive outdoor rally, which was held on Sunday in the capital city.
Many North Korean high ranking officials attended the rally, but Kim Jong Un was not present.
Pak Yong Sik, Minister of North Korean People's Armed Forces, addressed the event and praised the Korean War veterans for their efforts.
"On behalf of the respected leader Kim Jong Un, we commemorate52 Korean War veterans and anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters' achievement in the Fatherland Liberation War."Meanwhile, Pak warned the United States not to forget the lessons learned from the armistice treaty.
In marking the armistice, South Korea also gave warnings.
In a speech to a commemorative event on Monday in Seoul, South Korean Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn vows53 to act against North Korea's "provocations54" while maintaining a "watertight security posture55.""The development of nuclear weapons by North Korea threatens not only our country but also world peace. South Korea would like to counteract56 firmly against North Korea's provocations of any kind while maintaining the watertight security posture."But Hwang adds that the two countries would "move towards peace and prosperity on the Korean peninsula" if the North were willing to give up its nuclear program.
The armistice halted fighting between U.S-led U.N and South Korean forces and Chinese and North Korean troops, which lasted from 1950 to 1953.
But the truce has never been converted into a peace treaty, leaving the two Koreas technically57 in a state of war.
The UN Command will hold a separate celebratory event at the Joint24 Security Area inside Panmunjom where the two Koreas directly face each other.
Tens of thousands of Chinese soldiers died in the war that is known in China as the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea.
At a national conference of war veterans two days ago, Kim Jong Un paid tribute to the Chinese troops for their role in the war.
For CRI, I'm Zhao Jianfu.
US Envoy: Hopes for Iran-style deal with NKoreaThe US envoy for the six-party talks, Sydney Seiler, has suggested the efforts in reaching Iran's nuclear deal could provide an example for solving North Korea's nuclear issue.
"The recent progress in our efforts in denuclearisation with Iran provides an excellent example of the US flexibility58 and willingness to engage with countries with whom we've had long standing21 differences; that we remain committed to dialogue and negotiated settlement to this issue; and that the doors open to the DPRK."Sydney Seiler made the remarks after meeting with his South Korean counterpart Kim Guun in Seoul today.
He said he also expected China to play an expected role in the talks.
Earlier, North Korea has refused to accept even the idea Iran-style deal.
The six-nation negotiations59 are aimed at ending North Korea's nuclear weapons programme in return for aid and political concessions60.
The six countries include China, the US, Russia, the two Koreas and Japan.

Senior police officials say the attackers are believed to have come from the Indian portion of Kashmir.
Rebels have been fighting for an independent Kashmir or its merger61 with Pakistan since 1989.

Iraqi forces are now in full control of the university, located 5 kilometers south of Anbar's provincial62 capital- Ramad, which is still in the hand of the militants63.
The Major General, who commands the Iraqi military force which liberated64 the university, says troops have been deployed65 "in all parts of the university."''The Iraqi flag has been raised on the campus of Anbar university. Now Anbar university has been completely liberated from IS. Anti-terrorism troops have been deployed in all parts of the university.''
However, a number of buildings in and around the university complex are said to have been badly damaged or destroyed.

Clinton Says She Will Defend Affordable66 Care ActDemocratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton on Sunday criticised Republicans attempting to repeal67 the Affordable Care Act, adding she would "defend" and "improve" the health care legislation if elected.
"I will defend the Affordable Care Act, which the Republicans still seem intent upon repealing68. This one really is so maddening to me and I will tell you though, if they were ever to elect a Republican president, they would repeal the Affordable Care Act because they're in too deep."Speaking at an event at Iowa State University, Clinton also reiterated69 her position on the need to tackle climate change.
"We can make a transition over time from a fossil fuel economy, predominately, to a clean renewable energy economy, predominately, and the United States will then lead in dealing70 with the very real problems of climate change."Clinton promised to push for a dramatic increase in renewable power production, setting a goal of generating enough clean renewable energy to power every U.S. home within 10 years of taking office.
She also pledged to have more than half a billion solar panels installed nationwide within four years of taking office.
Thai Prime Minister Will Consider A Cabinet Reshuffle When The Time Is RightThai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said on Monday that he will consider a cabinet reshuffle after the current government reaches the end of its one-year working period in September or earlier.
"I'll reshuffle when the timing71 is right. The right time will be when we have worked (as a government) for a while, and we have to work accordingly to the situation. There might be some adjustments, not because they (the cabinet members) made mistakes, or what the society thinks. Now we're working on the different principles (of government)."It's being reported that the cabinet reshuffle will mainly focus on the economic team, following Thailand's slow economic growth in the first half of the year.
Growth last year was 0.9 percent.
The Thai government is predicting growth of around 3 percent for 2015.
Meeting Aims at China's Al DevelopmentAnchor:
Chinese artificial intelligence experts and AI device makers72 are meeting now in Beijing to discuss the future development of the industry.
CRI's Poornima Weerasekara reports.
Reporter:
This year's China Conference of Artificial Intelligence mainly aims to address the future of robots and the influence of Al technology on traditional industries.
Zhao Yanwei with a Beijing-based biometric recognition device maker9 says the country's AI industry has seen great progress in technological73 development.
"Our facial, iris74 and fingerprint75 recognition devices have found wide application in the backstage platforms of banks. Our algorithm has been certificated by the state cryptography authorities. That means our customers don't need to worry about the security of their systems."China has seen a rapid development of AI technology in recent years, especially in the fields of character and voice recognition, biometric recognition and robot manufacturing.
Latest stats show that 56-thousand industrial robots were sold last year, rising 54 percent from the previous year.
But Tan Tieniu from Chinese Academy of Sciences admits that China is still lagging far behind industrialized countries in both the development and application of AI technology.
"We can still see great gaps between our manufacturers and their foreign counterparts in the development of large-scaled AI systems and the making of core AI device parts."Tan adds that there is still a long way to go for the emerging industry to improve "general-purpose" AI technologies.
"The development of 'general-purpose' Al systems is still facing challenges. Compared with all-round human brains, current Al systems have intelligence, but lack wisdom, have Intelligence Quotient, but lack Emotional Quotient. They can hardly interact with humans. They can calculate, but can't think."The development of AI technology has been highlighted in China's newly released China Manufacturing 2025 and Internet Plus strategies.
Tan Tieniu suggests efforts should also be made to enhance AI-related legislations and push forward with the research on the influence of AI technology on human society to ensure a sound development of the sector76.
