1917，In Washington, President Woodrow Wilson asks Congress to declare war on Germany. Wilson says: The world must be made safe for democracy. The U.S. enters World War I days later.

1513，Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon lands in Florida, during his search for the mythical¹ fountain of youth.

1982，In the south Atlantic, troops from Argentina seize the disputed Falkland Islands from Britain. British forces retake the islands from Argentina by the following June.
