--There are allegations that leader Muammar Gaddafi’s troops have been using rape1 as a tool of war. And the International Criminal Court is gathering2 evidence that Libyan leadership has acquired a large quantities of drugs for its soldiers in an apparent attempt to make them more likely to commit sexual assault. Joining us now with the latest details on this disturbing allegation is Lara Setrakian. Lara, what can you tell us?
--Stephanie, the ICC’s chief prosecutor3 says Muammar Gaddafi will likely be charged with these rape allegations on top of other allegations as crimes against humanity since the start of the February uprising in Libya. And what we are hearing is horrifying4. You’d heard these cases before in April, there is a woman Anmongol Obadiah who stepped forward saying she’s been gang-raped and at the ringleader of her rape was allegedly a cousin of Gaddafi. Now it seems to be many more pieces out there. The rebel authority’s telling me today that there are cases out there. A lot of these women have fled to Tunisia, some of them have procured5 abortion6 as a result of those forced union. And generally they are the one who try to piece these together and get the information to the ICC, so they can pursue this case by case.
