Good morning. We are in the Good Morning America here on the East Coast, radio program on the West Coast because we have learned reports from Libya that Muammar Gadhafi, the leader of Libya for more than 40 years has been killed by rebel forces. That report is coming from the leader of the military council for the rebels for the National Transitional Council. He said that Gadhafi was captured and shot in Sirte, his hometown. Rebels, of course, have been pursuing there for several months, you will get the latest now from Jeffrey Coffin1.

Good morning, George, this if true, is huge news. Libyan TV now is reporting the former dictator Muammar Gadhafi is dead. They say he was killed by rebel soldiers. According to Libyan TV, he pleaed don't shoot, don't shoot, but they shot him. The announcement made in very dramatic fashion by an anchoring Libyan TV [fly]draped[/fly] in the rebel flag, that green, black and red flag that we've seen so much. We need to emphasize that there is still no independent confirmation2 of this. There is celebrational underway across Libya. And an official with interim3 rebel government told Al Jazeera that Gadhafi was shot in both legs. They now say that he died of those wound and they are going to make an official statement in a matter of hours. We still have to emphasize there is no independent confirmation of this. We do know that this morning anti-Gadhafi rebels finally took control of Gadhafi's hometown of Sirte, the last loyalist holdout. And that means the rebels now control the entire country. George.

OK, Jeffrey, thanks very much for this. No confirmation either from the White House, the Pentagon State Department Sources. Christian4, is joining us now. Of course this is huge news. He took over the coup5 in 1969, such a small country, but such a large role in that world.

Huge. He has been the global villain6 for so long now. You know, he has been accused of so many things, panner one or three, all these issues that had such close connection with the United States. Although he is sort of came in from the Cold a few years ago, but the minute this Arab Spring started, and Libya was really the second or third after Tunisia, Egypt. The world really decided7, enough is enough. It's unprecedented8, no fly zone, the United States put it up alone with NATO allies, helping9 the National Transitional Council, the Libyan rebels to get rid of this man. Now that so many of the people in Libya had the reason up. And I told him of course.

It's so clear when you talked him several months ago that he didn't really know what's happening there.

You know, none of these people do. When they have become cocoon10 and people have told them yes all their lives, they really don't know what's going on. I've seen that over and over again in revolutions and upheavals11, such as these. But he really did not want to know what is going on. If you remember, the minute people started to rise up in the streets, he called them cockroaches12 when they're gonna come after you, I'll never go to surrender. I'm going to stay here till I die. That kind of thing.

But it was different this time because they were in such a deniable form, because there have been uprisings before. And they were always able to beat them back but it's a different world now.

It's a completely different world and the people power is not going to be put back. Syria is an initial but here in the Libya, thanks to the US and its NATO allies, which brought the US in, there where able to crack Gadhafi's superior forces.

Another major dictator is found. Christian, thanks very much when you go back to our radio program now. And we have much more on ABCNews.com.
