A:
Bob: Victor, how come you look so exhausted1? Were you up all night? Your eyes look like a road map.
Victor: Yeah. I pulled an all-nighter cramming2 for the TOEFL test.
Bob: You told me you took the TOEFL test before. How did you do on it?
Victor: I blew it.
Bob: What was your score?
Victor: 480. That's too bad. The minimum3 score that SUNY requires for admission4 is 550. You know, the TOEFL counts more than any other tests for admission, if you want to study in an American university. It's pretty hard to get around 550.
Bob: Want my advice?Take as many practice TOEFL tests as you can. Find someone whose score was high to coach you for the test. Remember, learning5 how to take tests is almost as important as what you know.
Victor: To be honest with you, my mind went totally blank when I took the test last time. I felt so lousy that day.
Bob: Because you didn't get any sleep.
Victor: Uh-huh. The night before the test, you know, I wanted to push a lot of information into my mind "at the last minute". So I had some caffeine pills to keep me awake and drank a lot of coffee, too.
Bob: Don't be silly. You sure are under a lot of pressure. But it's still not smart to stay up for the whole night. You should get enough sleep the night before you take the test. This way you are sure to do better.
Victor: Thanks a lot. Sorry I can't talk now. I have to go hit the books at the library.
Bob: Well, good luck!
